I never thought I would ever write anything about the Barenaked Ladies mainly because they are my favourite band and I would never be able to truly put across their genius in an opinion such as this. Saying this I feel compelled to write. I know I can’t do them justice, I know I know very little about music and I know I will rant but I can’t sit by and watch such a great band go almost completely unnoticed. How many of you have even heard of the BNL’s? Even if you have, not many people reading this will have got much further than the hit single ‘One Week’, which is all well and good but it’s not their best yet still is so highly ... Barenaked ladies or ageing canadian popstars take your choice. This group is made up of four men who started releasing material together in the early nineties. The line up has had a few changes with a brother of one of the band members coming and going but not as badly as Destiny's Child who are different for every album. Right the music - pop like with a lot of acoustic guitar, double bass and jazzy on the older albums like Gordon, but they have moved with the times. They are most famous in this country for their song 'One Week' off the album Stunt. Just because they are well known for this song does not mean it is their best as any ... Read the complete review

I first saw BNL on a news programme telling how the Canadian authorities were playing up about them performing in public with a name like "Barenaked Ladies". The news item featured twenty or so seconds of their record "If I had $1,000,000" and I knew from that alone that I had to find their album. This I did. Actually had to get the album imported at the time. That was about ten years ago when I was a lot younger, but I've not outgrown their simple genius. For anyone interested in hearing their work I would suggest either going for their debut offering, "Gordon", or their most recent work, currently "Maroon". ... Read the complete review

I bought the album really enjoyed and what do they go and do, well they start by releasing one of the more annoying tracks on the cd after they released 'one week'. Then they disapear back of to America. Now I'm personally hoping for a new album over hear because, well their music was quite strange but it had a nice feelgood value to it. Especially alchohol. come back wherever you are The minused insanity within the music is driving me crazy. ... Read the complete review

The Barenaked Ladies......Better than Celine Dion. Most Canadians would be pleased to hear us say that. They have a very quirky sense of humour to their mellow pop songs. Having seen them live twice, their live show is very entertaining. Where they certainly do not break any ground in the music area, I don't think they ever try to. If you haven't heard hits such as $1,000,000 or One Week and you enjoy good throwaway pop, then this is the band for you. One comment I would make, one or two comments are "americanisums" which not everyone would understand, so don't worry if you don't get every little comment!!!!! Best Song - ...
