A great part of Brittish popular music

If you want a great feel good song to get the night started, put on something by The Bee Gees. It's bound to get your feet tapping and the crowd clapping! This music is designed to strut and dance to so grab your nearest hair brush, get the lyrics and sing along to the likes of "Staying Alive" ah ah ah ah-nd many more!

      Fab-Fact:
Did you know that the pulse of The Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive" (which incidentally I'm listening to now) is the pulse that you should do CPR to. So if you ever need to... just plug in your MP3 or Ipod and keep someone alive - it's what Daniel Craig should have done in Casino Royale when he tries to save Vesper!

This group produced a range of unusual sounds from their high male falsetto voices, making it easier for us ladies to join in! Just another plus about this influential group.

They have also proved to be versatile with their track "Islands in the Stream" - that was also done by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, I think.

Just another great thing about them:
Now it's been about 30 years since they were first on the scene and they're even cooler than they were at the time, because now they're "Retro-cool" so it's OK to strut down your town centre singing "Night Fever".

      Another Fab Fact:
Steps had hits with two of their songs:
Tragedy - (Yes we all know the dance routine!)
      Chain Reaction

      Actually...
I recently went to a disco where someone was doing the night-fever moves with much conviction, so the 70's must be on the return! (Oh dear!)

      Anyway...
From a musical point of view their songs are really catchy and an inspiration to song writers and composers world wide, so all the more reason to expand your musical awareness and knowledge, and listen or hum along.

      Final Fab Fact:
Their songs have been used not only in, but as the title for the musical "Night Fever" so they must be good as the title is generally what attracts you to go and see something.

A great band that have got to be truly timeless (even though they are very 70's??!!).

Bee Gees…….I Prefer The Gee Gees…….. I was just a kid when I first heard the brothers’ Gibb, it was the late sixties and Britain was in flower power mode, those days when it was cool to wear flowers in your hair. When the summers were long and hot and life was just so easy. I personally was a bit young for all that and my hair was just short, back and sides….. It was then I first heard them sing “Massachusetts”, not an easy word to spell may I add, but the song just blew me away. That unique sound of their voices that was to make hit after hit. The sort of voice you could only hope to achieve by wearing your pants extremely tight!! So the Bee Gees consist of three brothers being, Maurice, Robin and Barry. Robin was married to the lovely Lulu for a while but it just didn’t last. Robin is the brother that is into wearing a hat all the time. Lulu was a lovely girl whom I really fancied at the time. I think it was the mini skirt that did it, although she was older than me and these days I prefer my women younger, redheaded and intellectual with a witty sense of fun!…….. They are best remembered for the music from the film “ Saturday night Fever”, a cracking film starring John Travolta and that white suit. That cracking song Night Fever along with Jive Talking and Tragedy made the film a classic with the ladies. Travolta stripping down to his short black pants had nothing to do with it, or did it ladies??.. Personally I preferred their older songs like the one Ronan Keating destroyed, “ Words”. Now if you have heard the Bee Gees sing Words and then listen to Ronan sing it you will see what I mean. If you are a big Ronan fan then I apologise …. For your lack of musical taste!!!!!!…… I also liked the song “ Tragedy” which sort of revived the group from a period when they had all but vanished
from the music scene. Of course the ever lovely Steps took that song and their version bettered the Bee Gees one. Or was I just influenced by the lovely Lisa, what a tragedy that Steps split up. I was so upset by the breakup it took a month of intensive counseling for me to get over it. …… My two favourite Bee Gees songs are “Run to Me” and “First of May”. I love the lyrics in First of May, the verse “When I was small Christmas Trees were tall” but “Now we are tall and Christmas Trees are small” but “You and I our love will never die”. I have to admit that behind the old fool called Art1954 there is a bit of a romantic and I love songs with good lyrics. One of my all time favourite songs is “Stand by me” by the Pretenders, outstanding lyrics!…… They have managed to make hit after hit for over 30 years now and they are a big part of British music. They are listened to by both young and old and I would guess that most people in Britain have heard of The Bee Gees…. To finish I will give my opinion on them. I wouldn’t go out and buy one of their albums and I certainly wouldn’t watch them in concert. On the plus side I can name over a dozen of their songs that I love and I think they have been an inspiration to a lot of other bands and singers as proven by the number of their songs that others have sung…….. Anyway thank you for your read, take care, sitting here in work typing on a freezing day in Belfast just waiting on snow to fall, as ever your friend online…… Art……………..21th February 2002…This Opinion is Copyrighted by The Harrison Foundation …………………..x

Words: Songs Written By The Bee Gees Just about everyone has heard of the pop phenomenon that is the Bee Gees. Popular artists in five separate decades and across all five continents, they have fashioned a highly successful career in the music industry with their special brand of infectious and enduring hit music. Many fans of the Bee Gees will already own the 1990 retrospective album 'The Best Of The Bee Gees' (see separate opinion category on Dooyoo), but just over ten years on we can finally get our hands on a brand new compilation. Rather than performances of their greatest hits by the brothers Gibb, (namely Maurice, Barry and Robin) this CD set encapsulates the best versions of Bee Gees songs as recorded by other artists. Universal Music have seen fit to pack thirty-nine tracks onto a two CD set**. The tracks that have been chosen, as well as the selection of artists, are extremely varied with everything from Tina Turner to Tavares, Sandie Shaw to Steps, and Diana Ross to Destiny's Child. This is truly an amazing album and shows the great diversity of the Bee Gees' music. The tracklisting in full, is as follows: 1. Barbra Streisand - A Woman In Love 2. Celine Dion - Immortality 3. Destiny's Child - Emotion 4. Boyzone - Words 5. Elton John - Up The Revolution 6. Diana Ross - Chain Reaction 7. Dionne Warwick - Heartbreaker 8. Al Green - How Can You Mend A Broken Heart 9. Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton - Islands In The Stream 10. Barry Manilow & Dionne Warwick - Run To Me 11. Jennifer Holiday - Love Me 12. Roy Orbison - Indian Summer 13. Candi Staton - Nights On Broadway 14. Percy Sledge - Gotta Get A Message To You 15. Elaine Page - Secrets 16. Tom Jones & Gladys Knight - Guilty 17. Robbie Williams (With The Orb) - I Started A Joke 18. Boogie Box High (George Michael) - Jive Talkin' 19. The Bunburys - Fight (Eric Clapton & The
Bee Gees) 20. Andy Gibb - I Just Want To Be Your Everything 21. Tina Turner - I Will Be There 22. Beautiful South - You Should Be Dancing 23. Rod Stewart -To Love Somebody 24. Yvonne Elliman - If I Can't Have You 25. Take That - How Deep Is Your Love 26. Rufus & Chaka Khan - Jive Talkin' 27. Adam Garcia - Night Fever 28. Leo Sayer - Heart (Stop Beating In Time) 29. David Essex - New York Mining Disaster 30. Steps - Tragedy 31. Gene Pitney - Only One Woman 32. Frankie Valli - Grease 33. Sandie Shaw - With The Sun In My Eyes 34. Martine Mccutcheon - Love Me 35. Tony Hadley - First Of May 36. Melba Moore - You Stepped Into My Life 37. Dusty Springfield - Save Me Save Me 38. Michael Bolton - To Love Somebody 39. Tavares - More Than A Woman Many of the original versions of these Bee Gees songs were well know to me prior to purchasing this album. However, there were also a number of other tracks that I knew, but was not aware of the Bee Gees influence. Who, for example, realised that 'Grease' by Franklie Valli was written by Barry Gibb? Tracks, such as 'Heartbreaker' by Dionne Warwick, were classics of their time, and now that it's there is black and white you realise the connection, but before that? Many of the other tracks are slightly more obscure, and these are also some featured artists that weren't quite what you might term 'A'-list. However, For the most part, this compilation's creators have suceeding in pulling together a star-studded collection of great artists from the past thirty years. This is one CD compilation that will serve it's purpose perfectly well as background music, as well as entertaining your party guests. Perhaps many Bee Gees purists will not be quite as enthusiastic about some of the offerings on this collection. However, anyone that is a serious fanatic of the group, as well as many casual
          followers will no doubt be clambering for this particular CD once it finally hits the shelves of our music shops. Thirty-five years is a long time in any industry. It is even more incredible to survive this long in the cut-throat arena of the music charts, so the Bee Gees' longevity is all the more remarkable. ** Available very soon from all good on-line and off-line music stores. {An original Dooyoo opinion © Blackjane 2001}

The Beegees have been around for years around forty years now and still they are producing records that are reaching the top twenty (Number 18 but that's not the point), and still doing sell out tours all across the UK and the World. The band originates from the Isle of Man but emigrated to Australia when they were young and this is where they grew up. The have had numerous number ones single and albums, all of which have been widely acclaimed, yet through all this they have suffered pain and stress like the rest of us, e.g. the Death of much loved brother Andy. Barry, Robin, and Maurice are known throughout the world as sex symbols of the year and to some, (e.g. Mums) are still found to be some of the most attractive men on the Earth. Some of there hits include; Massachusetts, How deep is your love, Words, Tragedy, Jive Talkin, You win again, You should be dancing, Never fever, Stayin alive, And many more of which many have been copied and achieved high chart success, Steps-Tragedy, Blockster-You should be Dancing, and Boyzone-Words. The Beegees are definitely icons to all throughout the world and should definitely not be abused, they are fantastic, humble, terrific people, who deserve all the credit they receive. Good luck and may you stay producing hit after hit. And may Barry get well soon and stay strong and battle bravely against Arthritis.

This is the Bee Gees in concert in 1997 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The concert was called For One Night Only and i have the dvd version. Let me say from the start if you like the Bee Gees and you only ever buy one item of thiers this is it. There 32 tracks on the dvd covering a period from 60s to the present time. It's one of those albums where you know all the songs and didn't actually realise who sang the original, but none the less you sing along anyway. It's perfect for the car, a party or just for a good night in!! As I said B4, I have it on DVD, I definatly recommend that you go out and buy it, as it's all in clear dolby digital... this is 130 minutes of sheer brilliance which you will watch over and over again.

There are often groups who cover Bee Gees songs (boyzone, steps etc) which is good because it brings the Bee Gees to the masses, I think that if you mentioned the Bee Gees to most teenagers they would scoff, but I am only 25 and have loved the Bee Gees for a long time (I have a very wide diverse music taste!). When you listen to a Bee Gees album you recognise a lot of songs it is a case of "Did they do this song then, I never knew that". There musical style is disco-y and a lot of the songs are sung very high pitched (think the chipmunks), but they also have a lot of classic ballards too! The Bee Gees also wrote songs for Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick and Barbara Striesland, Dolly Parton to name a few! A very talented bunch!

I'm not really into the BeeGee's. My mum got a CD from Tesco called the very best of the BeeGees. I borrowed this CD and it's really good, it has 21 tracks featured all there best work. The BeeGees have a really different style from most singers, I don't know how they can sing so high pitched, it really weird, but strangely enough it works. My favourite song is Stayin Alive, everyone has heard of this John Travolta did this in Saturday Night Fever. Other good ones are How deep is your love, Jive talking, New York mining disaster. Plus loads more, the thing about this CD is that every single track is fantastic, not one track is rubbish. This is a fantastic buy, and all the family can enjoy it.
