Noooooooooo!!!!!!! Sorry for the outburst but I don’t think words can describe how totally and utterly gutted I am. Ben Folds Five are/were my favourite band in the whole universe and the saddest thing is that most of you have probably never even heard of them. Ben Folds Five were a trio from America. The band consisted of Ben Folds the front man, Darren Jessee and Robert Sledge. The nearest comparison I have heard of is Elton John in the early days or what Toploader want to be. Why Ben Folds Five? Well Ben Folds Three isn’t so catchy. The most unique thing about the band is that the main instrument is a piano. They never use a guitar, which ... Read the complete review

"Punk rock for sissys" probably isn’t the best way of billing yourself but then Ben Folds Five aren’t or should I say weren’t a typical band, they split up in November 2000. For a start they had no guitars, no guitars say it aint so!! Just a piano, bass and drums were enough to give the trio their distinctive sound, which quite frankly rocks out just as much as any rock band, we’re not talking Megadeth but they do sound pretty solid when they want to. Oh and they were a trio, Ben Folds Five had a better ring to it than the Ben Folds Trio. “in this time of introspection on the eve of my election I say to ... Read the complete review

Well, it's with great sadness I sit and write this review. I only discovered the excellent versatility and audio talent of Ben Folds five this week, now only a few days later I have found out that they have broken up. However, to anyone who hasn't heard any of their songs, so not let this dissuade you from listening to their amazing albums. The first track I heard from the Ben Folds trio was "Battle of Who Could Care Less". At the time I heard this track, it was so totally different to anything I had ever heard that it took me a little while to get used to. However, due to the financial strife of a teenager, I didn't buy the album back in ... Read the complete review

What a great album, while the first track leaves the mind wondering 'what the hell is this?' soon enough the fantastic variety and brilliance of Ben Folds and his band members sets in. The album has a wide range of musical sounds, there's a style for every one for sure, while some tracks (Stephen's last night in town is one that holds these qualities in particular) have up beat jazz rhythms, varity in texture and instrumentation others are much more melodic and full of emotion (evaporated, missing the war...) However, listening to just the CD was not enough, we travelled to cambridge corn exchange to watch the fantastic, awsome, brilliant, ... Read the complete review

'Ben Folds Five', quite possibly the most innovative band that walked this earth....to put it in the words of a simpleton...'they're great'. 'Ben Folds Five', a band originating from North Carolina (yes, the US), consists of 3 talented band members - Ben Folds (pianist and overall genius/'the leader of the pack'), Robert Sledge (bass) and finally the drummer (his name i forget - then again though, he is a drummer, how am I supposed to remember!). They're music, sheer beauty. They're melody being that of a sort of mixture of alternative/piano jazz/soft rock...though my description may sound unappealing to most of ... Read the complete review
