Most people have an idol in life, somebody they look up to, and in some cases, worship. There's quite a few people, mainly celebrities, in life whom I do admire, though the one idol of mine means quite a lot to me. That person is Billie Piper.
Billie Paul Piper was born on the 22nd of September 1982 in Swindon. She lived as an only child with both her parents for many years, until her brother and two sisters came along, hot on each others' heels. Of course, like most children, she felt as if her parents' attention had left her completely (though, despite so she did love her siblings very much). Before they were born, Billie would constantly perform for her parents, putting on shows or singing and dancing around the house. And after her trip to London with her Grandma, her thirst for the big world and stardom sucked on to her greatly. Billie landed herself with a role in an advert for an American breakfast cereal; this was but the start of her career.
Billie managed to persuade her parents to send her to Sylvia Young's Theatre School, where she settled herself in with a group of friends. After starring in an advert for a pop magazine, she was spotted by Virgin Records, where the amazing happened. She was offered a record deal, and being an exciteful fifteen year old who grabbed every given opportunity for performing, there was no surprise when Billie leaped at the chance! Then; a star was born!
After a lot of work, Billie's first single, 'Because We Want To'. Her debut was a huge success, and went straight to the top of the charts. It soon became an anthem for teens everywhere. Her first album was fantastic too, with plenty of teenage anthems, including Honey To The Bee and Girlfriend.
Unfortunately, Billie's second album was not so successful. She had a new, sexier image, with a more 'mature' approach to her music, with songs like Walk of Life and Caress of Gold (two of my favourites). This was around the time when things started to turn for the young actress. Billie developed Anorexia, which although quite common in the world of celebrities, was nothing to be overlooked. Though, after splitting up with her 5ive boyfriend, Rich, she was soon rescued. After appearing on an episode of Chris Evans' television show, the pair seemed to connect, and it was not long before the young couple married (though quite secretively).
Billie took a break from the media, though after a while she got herself back into the light after commencing an acting course in America. She began to land herself with a few television and film roles, such as Canterbury Tales and Things To Do Before You're 30. Though she landed herself with one role in 2005 that was soon to change everything. Billie was to play Rose Tyler in the hit BBC show Doctor Who alongside Chris Eccleston as the Doctor. After her first successful year, she continued her role, now with David Tennant for another year, before her very emotional departure. Though, she did return for a few episodes at the end of the fourth series at the beginning of July 2008. Now, children everywhere will recognise the singer-turned-actress as the young Time Traveller.
Although she did a few roles after Doctor Who, including Ruby in the Smoke and Mansfield Park, but her next and most recent major role was most certainly not for children! Billie was cast as Belle De Jour in the Secret Diary of a Call Girl; a series about a call girl working in London. I must say, I'm so pleased it has yet to warp my mind of my idol!
Since then, Billie has tried her hand at theatre production too, playing a leading role in Treats. After her divorce to Chris Evans was finalised, she married her partner (who was also co-star in Treats), Laurence Fox at the end of 2007. Billie is now pregnant, with the baby due around October (isn't it exciting?!).
So, Billie seems to have had a rollercoaster of a life, but what does the 25 year Me and Billie are quite alike in many ways. First of all, we both have a huge passion for the world of media and everything involved. Like her, it is my dream to make it big; not for the fame, but the sheer love of being surrounded by the buzz and the thrill (though unfortunately she was lucky enough to be granted the opportunity before now!). We're both perfectionists too; could be a good thing but more often than not its just annoying. But there's one thing that connects us both together in a huge way; our illness. Although I began to develop an Eating Disorder long before, reading Billie's autobiography (Growing Pains) really did kick my Anorexia into full drive (though in no way should she be blamed!). We've both suffered incredibly, and for some reason, I feel this has connected us together in some way (I wish!). She's a real inspiration, like myself in many ways, and definitely a fantastic role model.
Billie Piper is one of the most fantastic people I know of, and I'd give all I have to meet her. (Billie, if you read this, please oh please contact me!).
