Ray Charles in General:
... do feel sorry for all the emotions going through their family - but Aretha doesn't want peoples pity, as she wants to work for what she gets, and tells Ray never to let anyone make him become a cripple. The scenes in his flashbacks later on in the film where he first becomes blind are stunning. I still can't believe Sharon Warren hasn't got more big film appearances to her name after her tearjerking performance a... Read the full review: Do The Mess Around by nathaninnit |

Eric Johnson in general ... aside, he has graced us with just 3 solo albums since 1985's 'Tones', excluding the archival curiosity of 'Seven Worlds', a compilation of some older efforts of his which hit stores in 1998. Although a new album is in the works right now, Johnson is famed for his insatiable desire for utter perfection - perhaps one of the reasons his name is so seldom heard, even in the sort of circles which seem to fit. In essence, this means that every album he brings out will feature supremely polished pieces of work, but maybe only about 10 or 11 tracks of it - if you're lucky. The song became a hit, and Hooker quit his job to play full-time the hypnotic one chord country blues--sung in his preternatural growl--that he had learned from his stepfather. In 1962, Hooker brought out another smashing hit, entitled Boom Boom, which is, according to Puterbaugh, "a rough uncut Hooker." Hooker also has as an album on the market entitled Boom Boom. Hooker released this album in 1993. In the late 70's ... Read the full review: A Tribute To A Great BLues Singer by andy_uk |

Howlin' Wolf in general ... and, like many of his contemporaries, was 'rediscovered' by a white rock audience in the 60s and 70s. He played at many festivals and recorded an album ('The London Sessions') with the all-star support of rock stars such as Eric Clapton, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman and Steve Winwood. If you're looking for a first purchase, tough, avoid this and go for a compilation of his 50s sides, mostly recorded for the great chess label - you can't go wrong with a CD that features the likes of 'Built for Comfort', 'Do the Do' and his all-time classic 'Smokestack Lightning'. Rock fans will know many of his songs from cover versions: '... Read the full review: Howlin' Wolf - an introduction by grahamp3 |
