Advantages: Completely original,heartwrenchingly nostalgic..!!

Disadvantages: none..!!

If those long lazy summer days of your childhood were spent hanging out by the river, camping, watching the sunset over the hills etc then "boards of canada"might just be the soundtrack to those slowly fading childhood memories of yesteryear. So unique is their sound that it almosts triggers memories of such days that you would have thought long forgotten, forget those cheesy chillout compilations the mainstream seem to regurgitate these days,Boards of canada are the real thing and then some. The brainchild of "marcus eoin & michael sandison two brothers from the backwoods of "scotland"boards of canada over three albums have tapped into one of the most primal & poignant aspects of the human psyche,memory..!!
Their overall sound is so steeped in nostalgia thats its almost impossible not to picture the grainy stock camera footage your parents shot of you taking your first steps or braving your first bikeride. This is balanced out in a peculiar way with the brothers use of damaged and distorted samples from seventies nature documentaries, the overall effect is actually that the whole recording came from that era, perfection through imperfection, its a lilting ehtereal feeling that really has to be heard to be understood, like seeing the "matrix"for the first time, well kind off anyway.
A great album to start with would be the landmark"music has the right to children" followed by the darker "geogaddi"and the more accessible, well most accessible"the campfire headphase, all are beautifuly thought out and deeply rewarding listens, note the album artwork on all by the way,it will give you a give visual reference of the approach they take to the music.
If you are or have ever been a fan of chillout music in any form then i would highly recommend "boards of canada. They have gone to great lenghts to craft a sound that is completely their own..!!

Summary: A must hear band with a supernatural sound..!!
