Advantages: Appeal to some people
Disadvantages: don't sing live, lazy freeloaders...Too many to list
Ok, so there's a market for Girl/Boy bands in the UK. It's a shame, but there are people out there who like this sort of manufactured pop 'bands'. Sure, there are some girl/boy bands who can sing really well and give out a good message, they even write some of their own songs!! But, what about those who can only sound good when their voices are put through a load of electronical thingys to make them sound good. They can't write any of their own songs bevcause they'd end up like primary school rhymes, "I love you, Yes i do i really do..." but they don't even credit the songwriters for giving them the vital ingredient to their success. I don't think that it's right to have someone else write a song for you so that you can take all the glory when it makes you popular. Also, if these bands can sing really well, as they claim, then why don't they sing live at any of their performances. Instead they dance around to a special routine which only appeals to 7 year-olds and doesn't add anything to the music. Why not prove that you can sing and actually do it live? Why not expose your raw talent, without all the electronics? Music is still about good music but has now become more about image and performance, in all genres, e.g. Slipknot have a very distinctive image even though they're not pop. The trouble with boy/girl bands is that they've taken this to far. Sure, entertain the fans at concerts with pretty dance steps, but don't take away the live music, its what a concert should be about.
