After having split back in 2000, it's been 8 years since Boyzone were last around and by god are they back! They're new songs are a new turn for them! They're upbeat and somewhat 60's style are a great match for the boys! It would be seen that after so many years that even on tour, they would have to slow down and their voices wouldn't be as strong but this isn't the case at all!
On tour they're still their upbeat selves, their voices are still superb and they are the same old boys that I remember from back in 2000! On tour they are amazing, their songs still never cease to amaze me and they are back and seemingly better than before!
Their new album is expected in he early months of next year and I have to say, I will be in the ques waiting to buy it!
Well they have reunited after all this time and seem to be doing rather well. I use to be a big fan but had my doubts about them reforming as it may be good for some of them but maybe not so much for Ronan.
They had a sell out concert and have released several singles and an album. I would have liked to here more new songs from them on the album rather than just their old songs re done though (they already did this in their Best Of before they split).
I love the song 'love you anyway' it's very catchy but cheesy dancing and clothes. Now Im a huge Ronan fan but what has he done to his hair! If I was his wife I would not let him walk out like that especially as he is now into his 30's!
In the summer I was introduced to Keith Duffy in the Spanish town of Nerja by a friend of mine who's husband is friends with him and I must say he is looking quite haggered these days! too much partying I think.
On the whole they seem to be doing very well and Im just happy to be able to see Ronan on tv again!
Boyzone are ond of my favourite bands and I was upset when they split up as I hadn't had chance to see them live (very difficult living on the Isle of Man).
It was great news when they announced they were reforming and would be touring again. Of course I rushed out to (or rather onto the internet) to buy tickets.
For months I waited in anticipation in teh hope I wouldnt be let down and they would be every bit as good as I remembered.
When the day in June arrived - we arrived at the M.E.N in Manchester so excited. Our tickets meant we were close to the front. The arena was packed.
Then a few minutes after taking our places - there they were. WOW! Every bit as good as before. They were full of excitement and energy. "When the going gets tough" had to be the best set - seeing them "working out" on stage. And then they took to the skies - balancing on a "stage" just above our heads. We were so close we could nearly touch them!!
All in all it was a fantastic show and they certainly kept up with their rivals.
Have I got tickets for tour next year? Of course I have!!!
I am a massive, massive Boyzone / Ronan Keating fan! In August I was lucky enough to win a competition (on my birthday) to meet the lads at Carlisle. With concert tickets for their 2009 tour going on sale at 9am this morning (to Fans), I thought it was about time to write down my Boyzone bit.
I have been a fan of these lads since they appeared for the first time on UK television on This Morning in 1995. They were formed in 1993 by Louis Walsh (the plonker from X Factor). Their first tv appearance (which is now infamous) was on the Late Late Show, where the boys simply danced along, badly, to a backing track. This video is show in practically every interview they give, and is widely available on the internet.
All 16 singles that Boyzone have released have reached the UK top 5 and they became the first Irish act to have 4 number 1 hits in the UK. At their peak they were the biggest selling artists in music.
The groups final performance (until the come-back) was in January 2000,
WHO ARE BOYZONE?
They are an Irish boy band! Boyzone consist of Ronan Keating, Stephen Gately, Mikey Graham, Shane Lynch and Keith Duffy. They hit the mainstream of popular music in the 1990s and were extremely successful in UK and Ireland, with six Number 1 hits.
Ronan Keating - is the lead singer of the group. Handsome, blond Ronan has also had an extremely successful solo career. Ronan and his family set up the Marie Keating Foundation following the death of his mother to help find a cure for Cancer.
Stephen Gately - Stephen is known as the Duracell bunny within the group because he is so excitable and energetic. Spend a lot of time in West End shows following the boyzone split.
(UPDATE 12th October 2009) Tragically at 1.45pm on 10th October 2009 Stephen Gately died while on holiday with his partner Andrew Cowles in Majorca.
Shane Lynch - the wild child of the group, following their split Shane has appeared in Dream Team, and several reality shows (inc. The games and love island). He is heavily involved in motor racing now and taken part in several Pantomines.
Keith Duffy - Following the split Keith has appeared in Celebrity Big Brother and Coronation Street.
Michael Graham - Mikey pursued a solo career following Boyzone split, however he failed have much success.
On November 5th 2007 Ronan Keating confirmed that boyzone would be reuniting to perform on children in Need. During the children in need performance they announced the tickets for their tour would go on sale the following day. The band sold over 200,000 ticket in the first 3 hours they were on sale.
Their new single - Love you anyway - is released on the 29th September with a new album following in October. Boyzone will be touring for a second time in UK and Ireland from May 2009.
MEETING THEM IN PERSON!
My local radio ran a competition to win tickets for Carlisle live, each day people would win 2 tickets and then on Friday these people would get a tie breaker question and the winner would get to meet to Boyzone. Unbelievably I WON not only the tickets but also the opportunity to meet them.
I look my mum along (my Boyzone concert buddy!) - we went backstage and I honestly expected them to be sat behind a table ready to sign autographs, when we walked through the tent door, I have to admit really star struck!
Anyway, they weren't there. There were 20 of us and we had to stand around the sides of the tent and then the guys would come in, in a group of 3 and then 2. So we stood around all having a bit of a laugh and a joke about what we would say to them. Then about 15 mins later Ronan Keating walked into the room! He is much smaller than I thought, I am taller than him - he's probably about 5'7.
Shane Lynch and Michael Graham followed him in. Shane headed in our direction and had a bit of a chat to us and then wandered away, and then there was Ronan. The first one to talk to us properly and have his picture taken with us / autographs, etc, etc. His wife had just called him and he had a bit of a laugh with us about his Mrs' always calling him when he is just about to start doing something. I got a hug, and then my mum tried to take a picture but was so nervous she kept messing it up. Ronan went over to show her how to use it and then had a laugh with me about mums and technology. He chatted to us about his son liking Manchester United, and then moved on.
However, when I checked the photo mum had chopped my head off so when Ronan had finished with the next people my mum asked him if he wouldn't mind coming back over, he laughed (and was so nice about it) and came back over and we got a second picture. Ronan was quieter than I expected, extremely confident but spoke very quietly and chatted to you personally rather than the whole group, he really was a lovely, lovely man. Stephen, Keith and Shane chatting to the group as a whole, had a laugh with everyone and spoke to you individually, while Ronan just spoke to you!
Next up was Mikey, again very quiet - Although, I expected that. He asked us if we were looking forward to the show, and we were talking about the reunion tour we'd seen in Manchester.
When we had finished with Mikey, me and the girl next to us noticed that Shane had missed us. So shouted across to him, he came over and had a joke with us that we were more interested in Ronan when he passed the first time. Shane was really really nice and I talk to him for a little while. It was really strange because we had a friend in common and I ended up have quite a long chat with him about that, which was very surreal! I spoke to him about him soon to be a daddy, and about his car racing. He was very good looking, friendly and charming. He won me over. Very tall!
Next in were Stephen and Keith. - Keith came around to us first and we had a chat about Corrie, Manchester, and the reunion tour. Again another lovely guy, they all were!
Finally, little Stephen. Had a chat to him about the reunion tour as only me and my mum had seem it. He was talking to us about how excited he was and I said we have really enjoyed seeing them in Manchester and how much fun the tour was.
The strangest thing is that I expected to be really star struck but when they walked in they were all so friendly and down to earth that they really were just guys who happened to be Boyzone. It was so easy to talk to them all. I don't have a bad word to say about any of them, if possible they were better than I expected (and that really is saying something!)
FANTASITC, AMAZING, INDESCRIBABLE Weekend! (Pictures from the day can be found on The Bay Radio website).
I have to admit that I am one of the biggest Boyzone fans out there. I can across them when I went to the Smash Hits Road show. This is an opinion of Boyzone the star’s of Irish pop music from 1995 to 1998. This opinion is aimed at people who have brief or very little knowledge about Boyzone In the summer of 1994, Boyzone broke in the Irish pop scene with their song “Working my way back to you”. In the same year they covered, the Osmonds hit single “Love me for a reason”, as they were touring with the Smash Hits road show this launched them in the British public’s eye. By the end of this tour they had sold over 600,000 copies of “Love me for a reason”. Boyzone have had hit after hit after hit. They have recorded the main theme tune song for the film “Bean” and their biggest hit to date was “No matter what” taken from the musical “Whistle down the wind” Boyzone have won many awards from;- Best New Act at the smash hits party in December 1994 Best New Act at the Irish music industry awards in 1994 Ivor Novello Award for "Picture Of You", Record of the Year award for "No Matter What" among many others. So who are Boyzone? Boyzone were five young lads from across Ireland. This boy band consisted of: - Shane Lynch, Ronan Keating, Steve Gately, Keith Duffy, and also Mikey Graham Let’s talk about them in more detail. Shane Lynch Shane Lynch was born on July 3, 1976. He has lived in Donaghmede all of his life. He comes from a musical background with many of his sister’s in famous pop groups. (Edele and Keavy from Bewitched and also Tara from FAB.) He is very interested in formula one and stock car racing. When Shane was 14 years old he was the All Ireland and Portuguese BMX champion. Since Boyzone has taken a break, he has recorded a singl
e with other Boyzone band member, Keith Duffy” Girl you know it is true”. He has also recorded a series with Men and motors called ”Shane’s World”. Ronan Keating Ronan Keating was born in Bayside Dublin on 3rd of March 1977. He is probably the most well known and successful member of Boyzone. Ronan has a keen interest in running, as he was the All Ireland running champion at the age of 13. He was offered a place at Iowa College, New York to study to become a full time athlete. He declined the chance of going there because he wanted to train to become a member of the Garda, Boyzone then come along and he was picked to join them. Since Boyzone has taken a break he has become a successful male solo artist, with many number one singles from his first solo album called “Ronan”. He has embarked on a UK and European tour to promote his album. He is currently in America to try to crack the American market. He is also going to do a sell out show at Butlins in Minehead, which I am going too. I cannot wait to go. Ronan in now married and he has two children. Steve Gately Steve Gately was born on 17th of March 1976,St Patrick’s Day in Dublin. He has three brothers and one sister. He is very close to all of the members of his family. Steve Gately has had an interest in drama since he was in primary school. He then took a course the Gaiety Theater. He his first appearance’s on Irish television was for Jo Maxi- an Irish youth show. He also has done a lot of extra work on many Irish based films such as “Name of the father” and “The Commitments”. Since Boyzone has taken a break he has recorded a solo album called ”New Beginning”, he has had a moderate success from it. From this album, he recorded the main film sound track from the smash hit film “Billy Elliot”. He has also done a lot of presenting work for satellite television. Since he ha
s admitted he was gay, he has become a gay icon. Keith Duffy Keith Duffy was born on October 1st 1974 in Dublin. He has two brothers called John and Derek. Keith Duffy went to the Norma Barry’s school of dancing for four years. Keith Duffy is very keen on sport weightlifting, and rugby. He also loves Gaelic football and hurling, he was a member of the club Trinity Gaels and he won the North East championship, at the Dublin schools and college tournament. Keith Duffy also represented Dublin for three years. Since Boyzone has taken a break, he has recorded a single with other Boyzone band member, Shane Lynch” Girl you know it is true”. He has also taken part in comic relief celebrity Big Brother where he came in third place. Keith Duffy has also made a lot of appearances on television and he has presented many television programs. Keith is now married with two children. Mikey Graham Mikey Graham was born on the August the 15 1972 in Dublin. Mikey Graham has one brother and five sisters and he is very close to them all. From a young age he was interested in music and drama, - he wanted to be famous. During his younger years, he was in many advertisements for Mikado biscuits and the biggest advert that he did was for ESB, the Irish electricity board. Since taking a break from Boyzone he has recorded his own album and he has released an single from the album called “You’re my angel”. How was Boyzone Formed? Boyzone was formed when Louis Walsh, wanted to set up a Irish boy band, as there was nothing happening in Irish pop music at the time. He got this idea around September 1993, and by November, he was holding auditions (like so many pop bands today) in the Ormond Center in Dublin. He then chose six boys, but after some time two of them left and he then brought in Mikey Graham. What singles have Boyzone brought out? Love Me For A Reason – there firs
t single in the UK. This was the song that launched them in the UK. Key To My Life So Good Father and Son Coming Home Now Words A Different Beat Isn't It A Wonder Picture of You – Baby Can I Hold You All That I Need No Matter What I Love The Way You Love Me When The Going Gets Tough You Needed Me When You Say Nothing At All (Ronan's solo) Every Day I Love You What albums have Boyzone brought out? Said and Done A Different Beat Where We Belong Where We Belong (US Version) By Request What Video’s have Boyzone brought out? Said and Done Live At Wembley Something Else Boyzone Live - Where We Belong By Request So give Boyzone a try- you might just like them!!!!!!
I don’t know a lot of facts about Boyzone, but I have had to live through their torturous career in which they used to clog up the TOTP magazines (when I wanted to see Oasis!), and endure half of my friends becoming fans. What really annoys me about them is that they have hardly recorded an original song. And what annoys me even more is that they always sound like the original! I’m not against covering songs, but what is the point if they sound like a carbon copy of the first? Why don’t they just not bother to record them and put out a re-release of the original and with their faces on the front – or that what they already do? At least they are (slightly) more upbeat than Westlife, recording <shock!> a couple of songs which have more than the usual five beats a minute (When the going gets tough). I think it’s the ballads that are the worst, they are so sappy and slimy, but I have had to endure them since my neighbour seems to like playing them at full volume (oh why?) Another thing that I don’t understand about Boyzone is that they have five members when it’s blatantly obvious that only one of them does the singing! What is the point in having Cedric, Jeremy and Wilbert when they don’t do anything (Apart from a bit of groovy dancing and looking smug in photo shoots)? Even Steven was only in the group so they might attract a few blokes as fans (you could tell by the way he applied his makeup). No, it wasn’t Cedric, Jeremy and Wilbert who did the backing vocals, it was a bunch of ugly spotty men with greasy hair who did the backing, but the record company wouldn’t let you see them, so had to get some only moderately ugly men to lip-synch to the words and have the nation fooled. At least Ronan has proved himself slightly worthy by setting up a solo career in adult-pop. I suppose he could sing, but his voice is so hideously deformed that even after all this voice training they stil
l have to do a lot of work on the computers (and even then it’s still revolting). And what’s all this about Boyzone being male pin up? If you’re going to be a male pin up then you’ve at least got to have something masculine about you, and you’ve actually got to be reasonably good looking!
I went to see Boyzone in 1999 at Manchester. I had 3rd row seats and was 32 weeks pregnant. I found Boyzone to be excellant. The concert was one of the best things I have every seen. They played all their best old tunes and threw in a few new ones too. The only dissapointment was seeing Shane. He was totall useless and a wast of stage space. All the other Boyz sang a solo apart from him. I am defiantely going to get tickets for their concerts next year as they were superb.
Boyzone are a poor man’s Take That. Neither band, of course, is worthy of musical praise, as they are all about presentation, just like all boy/girl bands. Take That, however, had personality. Everyone knew who was who. Most people couldn’t tell you who the two defunct mambers of Boyzone, or Ronanzone as it has been known, are. Watching five men in black churning out pop classics from bygone eras is not my idea of a good time, and it shouldn’t be yours either. The public needs boy bands, it seems, but I’d prefer it if they rejected bands like this.
Boyzone; second worst boy band. Boyzone are the worst male band after Westlife. They are like a copy of Backstreet Boys and even though I don't know who cam eout first, I ahte Boyzone a lot!!! Boyzone has rubbish songs and can't sing at all. They are very annoying to listen to and I wouldn't really recommend them to anyone! Well, that is unless you like sitting in front of your Hi FI all day listening to total and utter rubbish!
While watching Ronan Keating's performance of "Life Is A Rollercoaster" on TOTP, it suddenly struck me that he was reminding me, bizarrely, of Phil Collins. It's not the track itself, though it *is* the kind of MOR "Rock" sludge that Collins started peddling in the 80's....it's more to do with Keating's actual vocal style on this particular song...and, even more ridiculously, his body language and physical movements - the way he was tilting his head *up* to the mic and kind of flinching in a distinctive way as he hit high notes. I would bet money that the man has been studying Collins' vocal style and physical mannerisms in order to replicate them.
Boyzone have been on top for many years due to the clever marketing tactics of a team dedicated I am sure to ensuring their success. Boyzone success meant Louis Walsh had success, in the form of a pocket lining. How this band ever made it I don't know. Out of all of them, Ronan maybe the only one who isn't tone deaf. He has a funny voice that has grown on people over the years. But at least he doesn't sing out of key. The other lad, Stephen, has a strange voice too. He isn't a bad singer, but certainly isn't ground breakin. Mikey just launched his solo career. Fair play to him, someone came up with a catchy song for him, which at the end of the day is what sells most. But I watched a bit of their Dublin concert on tv and he sang a solo. I felt sorry for him, he was completely out of tune and made the song sound terrible. No studio trickery could help him there. The other two lads now. Why on earth are they in the band? To make up numbers? They never sing. Can they sing? Could they hold their own on stage? Doubtful, or they would have done that by now. That tall one, from Dooblin, is a joke. No matter. Boyzone have touched the heart of many a young kid, which is great, but would the powers that be not like to produce a band of singers with people who can naturally sing? Please grace us with something better.
This is the greatest hits of the most talented band in the world - writing all those great songs, playing their instruments to such perfection and arranging those dance routines they do. It's no suprise that Ronan decided to set up and manage another group of great musicians - Westlife - he even helped them write all their songs and thought some of them how to sing and play the guitar etc. And you think they sound good on cd ? You have got to see them live on stage - managing to sing and play their songs so well that, to the untrained ear, it would sound like one of their cd's playing through the p.a. system. I think everyone should buy all Boyzones albums - think of how happy you will be in 20 years when some young band trys to do some cover versions of Boyzone songs - and you will laugh and say - 'oh, it's not a patch on the original'... 'By Request ' will probably be the most influencing album of this century. Who would have thought that the Lennon amd McCartney, Simon and Garfunkel or even the Elton John and Bernie Taupin partnerships would have been made look so bad by the new duo - Ronan and Stevie. And now, with his new album due for release in a few weeks, and Bob Dylan shaking in his boots, it looks like Ronan is about to become the greatest songwriter that ever was. And so what more can be said - go and buy it. Sell your Beatles Red and Blue albums, your Queen Greatest hits 1,2 and 3, your David Bowie Singles Collections and your Elton Johns greatest hits albums....cos once you listen to Boyzone - 'By Request', you will be hooked. Thank you Ronan, Stevie, Mikey, Kieth and Shane.
Most of Boyzone's songs are ballads. They are all very samey and a lot are covers. Particular bland and boring songs are "I Love The Way You Love Me" and "You Needed Me". Howevery haviong said this, they have made a few good, catchy more uptempo songs such as "Picture Of You", "When The Going Gets Tough" and "So Good", which are far better. Boyzone have had 6 number ones as a band, and 3 members have now released solo singles, with lead singer Ronan Keating unsurprisingly faring the best, with both his solo efforts going straight in at number 1. They have released 4 albums, all going straight in at number 1.
This is more of a symbol of my hate for boybands allround the manufactored band is my least favorite type of music (all genres and all dates) and obviously watching girl bands has it's concessions, but boybands... euch. what's the point of them??? 5 or 6 blokes sitting on stools, and half way through their unison song, they get up and waggle their crotches about. No thanks boys. Keep it to yourself. And that ****ing ronan Keeting DIE! Ok that concludes the review
Boyzone have always made super pop records. Although they are not the sort of band on whom I would spend money buying albums, about 98% of their singles have been really great 'pop' records. The only thing I have to say however though is that in recent times, the records they have put out have all been on the slow side. This is a shame really as they produce just as good up beat records as ballads. Ronan' Keating's voice is OK I suppose but a bit too 'afected' for my taste, he tends to pronounce "S" "SH" you notice. This can be a little distracting but it doesn't make his singing (or hish shinging ha ha) unlistenable. Stephen Gateley's voice is a little better, bit I wish they would make more use of Mikey as a lead singer. He licks the both of them. Kids and mums love boyzone. Their records are good and they cartainly gook great!
