Advantages: Great to listen to
Disadvantages: If you don't like Celines voice you will hate this
I guess Celine Dion has a voice that you will love or hate and most people form their opinion very quickly! I think that she has the best female voice on the planet and as such love listening to her sing almost anything. Her latest and possibly final release is "All The Way:A Decade Of Song" which combines her greatest hits with seven new tracks. I have mixed feelings on greatest hits albums. All too often they are churned out by artists keen to make an easy buck from fans that will already have all or most of the material on different CD's. To my mind the greatest hits releases are a way of targeting new fans while the loyal fans will still purchase the new CD so it should be a guaranteed winner for the artist. However recently artists have been putting new tracks on the greatest hits CDs to encourage fans to buy the CD. When Bon Jovi released Crossroads, their greatest hits CD, they merely put two new tracks on the CD which made it an expensive purchase. However, with Celine Dion putting seven new tracks on all the way it is far more appealing especially with some CDs now containing as little as 10 tracks. As always with a Celine Dion release the CD runs to the full 74 minutes that CD allows. There is an argument that says that a greatest hits album can be weakened by putting a lot of new material on it. However, as Celine Dion does not write her own material the new songs are all of a high standard as she can reject the substandard material. I don’t have any complaints about the songs chosen for the greatest hits element of the CD. It is a good mixture of the very early releases which will be new to some people right up to the recent favourites. As I have said before the new material is excellent and probably benefits from the CD only "needing" seven new tracks so it was just the cream of her studio recordings which were put on the CD. The CD features a wide variety of trac
ks, from the up beat pop track "That’s The Way It Is" to the classic power ballads that she is famous for. There are also duets with artists including Frank Sinatra, Peabo Brison and R Kelly. This is one album which I would consider an essential purchase and definitely puts all the other female artists in the shade. Go and buy it!

- 03/06/02 I agree with the point about putting new songs on a greatest hits to make it more appealling. I was tempted, but having all of her old ones, I still did not buy. If I see it in a sale i'll get it!!!!!!!!!!! |
