Advantages: Beautiful songs, voice and lyrics

I am beginning to feel that I am in a minority. My musical tastes are very varied and I admit to being a fan of Celine Dion.

ALL THE WAY...A DECADE OF SONG

This was the last release from Celine before she decided to have time away from the music industry in order to spend time with her husband Rene who had been diagnosed with throat cancer, and in her time away she has also become a mother to a baby boy after a long time trying.

The CD covers the highlights of Celine's career, and also gives us a few new tracks just to keep us keen. A selection of the songs:


THE POWER OF LOVE
Originally recorded by Jennifer Rush, and this version eclipses the original. This is a classic ballad which never ages, and the words are written so beautifully.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
A duet with famous American singer Peabo Bryson, and from the animated film of the same name. I am afraid this song is nothing more than very very average, as sometimes soundtrack songs are, yet Celine proves to be the exception with...

BECAUSE YOU LOVED ME
This is the theme song from Up Close and Personal with Robert Redford and Michelle Pfeiffer. I love this song, and again because I am such a sucker for lyrics this song does it for me everytime, and as another ballad, it suits Celine down to the ground.

THINK TWICE
This is the sing which really forced Celine into the limelight. Ballads are what her voice was made for, and the video with the ice sculptures went so well with the song, that we did not mind seeing it week after week as she dominated the top of the charts.

IMMORTALITY
Written by The Gibb Brothers aka The Bee Gees, and they have been quoted in many interviews as being honoured to work with Celine, and I think that speaks volumes of her respect and success within the music business. Another ballad, and the harmonies are haunting.

MY HEART WILL GO ON
I cried the first time I heard this son
g after seeing Titanic. It featured on the soundtrack, and in a way this was a shame, as it was overplayed and started to get on the nerves of people, but when you have not heard it for a while, you forget how good it was.

THAT'S THE WAY IT IS
One of the new tracks on the CD, and a rare upbeat song, and in the video, she looks absolutely stunning.


THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE
A cover version of the Roberta Flack classic, and Celine does well, although I felt that she does not sound comfortable to be emulating such a classic song, so she does not do herself justice.

Finally ALL THE WAY was chosen as this is Celine and Rene's song, and as she says every couple has their own song, she is just lucky enough to be able to share it with the world.

If ballads are not your thing then give this CD a miss, otherwise listen and enjoy.
