Okay, first up I don't mind Eminem because at least he looks okay. I HATE Marilyn Manson.

How on earth can people think the content of their songs are okay?? I just don't understand how these artists can sleep at night when there's the possibility that they have seriously influenced a child. There are some very weak impressionable people out there (not just children) who are looking for something to put their energy and beliefs into and its those of people like Manson which will have the most impact.

Usually the 'followers/minions' of such acts are goths/moshers whatever you want to call them. For some reason these people enjoy looking morbid and being miserable. Some even think its a good idea to pale their face and use lots of dark eye make up so that they resemble a corpse. They're excuse, we want to be different. Well sorry but there is now such a mass of you that you simply blend in with the rest of them. Moshers also tend to be the saddos sat in class thinking they're cool because they just talk all lesson and write about their torments in a notebook. Basically an excuse to be lazy and moan. When asked if you believe in what your idols 'sing' about then why listen? Why copy their clothes and actions?

I don't personally believe that by listening to an album a person is going to go completely off the rails. Generally teenagers aren't stupid, although their are exceptions. However, there is what is called a drip drip drip effect. When you listen to something over a long length of time and pay particular attention to it, it is bound to have an effect. Possibly not a very big one but the size will vary depending on the emotional strength of the person. Its these weak minded people who could experience negative effects, some of which could be extreme. As a society should we not protect such people?

Fans of this music insist that the artists don't actually mean what they are saying. T
hat it is just a joke and that they are only doing it to stir controversity. Excuse me? They say such things as kill all gays and beat your wives as a joke? Excuse me for not rolling with laughter. Only particularly screwed up people think that is funny or want to use those issues for attention.

Personally I would normally be against the notion of censoring music but I would also figuring that humans were intelligent enough to be able to self-regulate. Apparently not. In which case it should be left to people who are intelligent enough.

Oh and in case your wondering I'm not some townie or anything. My personal choice of music is bands like the Beatles, the Strokes, The Bluetones, Michael Jackson and other classic rock types. If I had my way Britney Spears would be censored too although she does give off a slightly more wholesome image.

I don't agree, but have rated VU as it is well written. I think if a few people are damaged and impressionable the rest of us shouldn't have to suffer because no body wants to tackle why these people are so susceptible. Also "There are some very weak impressionable people out there (not just children) who are looking for something to put their energy and beliefs into " - wouldn't the religions be the more pressing priority then, rather than a few 'shock-peddlars' who in a few years will be seen as on par with Alice Cooper and Billy Idol?!
