Eminem sells records. You cant get away from the fact that he does his job well. The way he and others alike do the job though is subject to heavy debate and a great deal of media attention. But this is exactly what sells the records though. The more press attention he gets, the more contraversial his music is, the more he seems to sell. But should we be worried by this? Or should we simply give him respect for the fact that he breaks away from the conventional image and subject of music? He does, in fact speak his mind, unlike many other people in the music industry who simply say what they have been told to say.

Here are the arguments for and against each and the censorship of his music:

Eminem uses obsene language, he talks of murder, rape and a extreme dislike for homosexuals. These are his views. We live in a country where we have the freedom to say what we think, so why do we all make such a big deal out of his views? Why are we so appaled by them, when im sure there are plenty who might be appalled by someone elses views? It is just one mans opinion, and we are all entitled to our own.

In fact, shouldnt we give him a little respect for his strength in saying 'f**k you' to those who are constantly giving him a slating? Because nothing seems to stop him from doing what he wants, and saying what he thinks. This demonatrates will power surely? and the courage to ignore what others think of him. I think we care too much about what people think of us and Eminem is once again making a statement that he doesnt care.

His music makes other statements such as this, so why censor it? By censoring it, you destroy the message and destroy his right to freedom of speech.

I think taking that view is fair enough, but you have to remember that children do look up to him for his will power and strong views and that is why he sells his music so well. However, you must also consider that by doing this he is an idol to some peop
le. Children want to be him and therefore adopt his views, which arent necceserally morally correct.

His music encourages bad language and sets an appalling examaple to kids. Ok, this seems contradictory to what i wrote earlier, because although i would want my kids to grow up as strong willed people who do what they want because they want to, I want them to have morals and i dont want them to have f**k and every other s**t word in their sentence. But eminem sets the example of this being acceptable, and in my opinion its not.

In conclusion, censorship of music is better than a whole generation on eminems and mansons isnt it? What sort of world would you want your kids to grow up in? Will power and determination can be taught in other ways.
