Sod the Sex Pistols, don't get me wrong even though they could not play for toffee they still were a great band. This review is on the Clash though so they don't bare comparison, but then again noone really does. When talking about punk most people think of the Sex Pistols as the the group that personified the era. I am telling you now that this is wrong, noone could compare to the passion, the energy and the rage that the Clash produced in both their albums and live performances. Joe Strummer and The Mescalaros - Manchester Academy - 17.11.01 Its hard when you've been in a successful band to branch out on your own so its predictable that Joe Strummer still gets a load of flack for his solo work. It must be my age but I'm not one of those detractors who complained when the Sex Pistols reform or when Strummer plays the old Clash tracks...I'd probably be as precious about my childhood heroes but I can't see a point when either the Manics or the Levellers split up just yet so the idea of them reforming frankly is laughable. At the time I was a big fan of The Clash. But it is not until quite recently that I have started listening to them again. The Clash started out by supporting The Sex Pistols on their Anarchy tour. They signed up with CBS Records and recorded their first album "The Clash" in 1977. The album reached number 12 in the UK charts. CBS tried to get them into the American market with their second album "Give Em Enough Rope" in 1978 but sadly they had very poor sales. However, in the UK charts it got to Number 2.
