Coldplay in generalNewest Review: ... instantly liking the dancey vibe of 'Sqaure One' and the slow, epic build up of 'Fix You' I was interested enough to listen to it through again....and again....and again. Fans might have been slightly worried about this 3rd album, wondering if their sound would evolve into something more experimental in par with Radiohead’s 3rd album, OK Computer. Experimental new sounds are rarely welcomed by established fans (the exception being OK Computer, recently voted the best album of all time) and Coldplay have played safe and given us an album that will delight their fans. The quality of songwriting is consistently high, Chris Martin demonstrate... more |

Coldplay are a band that would have been called brit pop if they'd been around a few years ago but are now just alternative. In America only old Pink Floyd loving Grandads would be caught dead listening to them. But they are very easy listening, nad have overtaken The Smiths as depressing music of choice, although they've got a long way to go before they can topple Morrissey and Marr as kings of suicide accompaniment music. Less annoying than Toploader but less raw than The Stereophonics and Travis, Colplay have corned the market in politely angst ridden teens. If Slipknot are too mad and Britney's too sad you can always take the third way with ... Read the complete review

You might not guess to look at him, but theediscerning likes his fun. He likes mind-altering drugs too. But before you think he's sitting here toking (and in a public library that'd be quite a feat), let it be known he means food, drink, sexual hormones, and especially music, as all the mild-altering he needs to indulge in. Many is the time when theediscerning needs a bit of happiness in his life, and his CD collection, spilling as it is from its full-height bookshelf, is a mainstay of those moments. Theediscerning gets as much enjoyment from buying new records as he does from listening to his faves, which is proven by the huge piles of ones ... Read the complete review

I saw Coldplay at the NME Awards Tour before they released their album. I'd heard their EP, and with about 20 other people, stood and watched in amazement as a superb new band took the stage. Everyone else had left the room until the next act - afterall, they'd never heard of Coldplay, probably not worth their while. It turns out I got in while the going was good. Since then, media hype has taken over, the songs have been played to death on the radio, and an album which at first wouldn't leave me CD player is now confined to the shelf. I can't bring myself to listen to it, I'm sick of it. Why must the media do this? Coldplay had ... Read the complete review
