Advantages: great compilations, good mixes

Disadvantages: see op

compilations can be greatof course!) which have some of the harder to get songs and sound great when you listen to it at once. Also when buying compilations you may be introduced to previously unknown songs that you fall in love with. Its a great way to learn about different groups.

Also advantages of getting compilations are that you don't have to fuss about buying singles. Also they're good value for money, (compared with buying 20 singles)

Disadvantages can be ending up with awful albums, or where u hate one CD. This has happened to me with 101% UK GARAGE (MASSIVE)
I also hate it when there's songs you really really hate alongside your favourites, check out The Best Dance Album In The World ...Ever Part II.
Although advantages of this album are that it is good for people who like both kinds of music(unlike me!)

I think there's different qualities in compilations just like normal albums and you have to find what's right for you!
This may involve some searching around, but you can't say all compilations are crap, or that all are fantastic.

Everyone has their own views about compilation albums. The good ones are often worth the buy and I have quite a few favourites. Any way thats enough waffle, here's my top ten compilations in reverse order:

10 The Ministry Of Sound Spring Summer 2001 Annual

Yes I know it isn't the best album out by far this year but it really has grown on me.
Disc 1 starts off with Jakatta and 'American Dream' then goes on to 'SalSoul Nugget', 'Touch Me' by Rui Da Silva and ends with Lexy & K-Paul's 'The Greatest DJ'.
The second CD has the excellent 'How U Like Bass?' by Norman Bass, Cosmic Gate's 'Fire Wire' and Public Domain with 'Operation Blade'.
My favourite tracks are 'Whoomp!... There It Is (The Club Mixes) and Push with 'Strange World'.
The reason I li
ke this album could be because it is full of energy and I put it on when getting ready to go out.

9 'Turn On Tune In' the very best soul & jazz from the coolest TV commercials

Ahem another strange one I agree!!
There's a twist- instead of using music to sell things here's a CD that uses things to sell us music.
This double album has lots of tracks that make you scratch your head and wonder where you've heard it. It is good to put on and try to guess the product that it promoted (even though a lot of them are before my time!)

8 Clubbers Guide To 2001 - Tall Paul

Excellent double album with tracks by Rui Da Silva, Hatiras, Schiller and many more.
The second CD is brilliant starting off with Fatboy Slim and 'Star 69'. Other songs include 'Wack Ass M.F.' by the Rhythmkillaz, 'Feel The Beat' by Darude and the fantastic 'We Are Alive' by Paul Van Dyk.

7 The Annual Millenium Edition (ministry of sound)

This double album is still great to listen to two years since I got it. The first CD is mixed by Judge Jules and has fab tracks like 'Right Here Right Now' by Fat Boy Slim and 'You Don't Know Me' by Armand Van Helden.
The second CD is mixed by Tall Paul and has the excellent 'Toca Me' by Fragma, DJ Jean's 'The Launch' and '1999' by Binary Finary. Overall a great album to remember 1999!!

6 Hard House Nation 2

A bit commercial, a bit underground this album is a must for all dance lovers. It is a bit on the dark side (I loved happy hardcore a few years back so its great for me!).
First CD is mixed by Lisa Pin-Up and starts with 'Operation Blade'. Other pumping tracks include 'Feel So Good' by Ollie Jaye, 'Sonic Boom' and the brilliant 'Clap Your Hands' by Camisra. The second CD is equally good mixed by Andy Farley. It has wicked songs like
'Hold Up', 'Trippy', 'Wake Up The Funk' and 'The Dawn' by Tony De Vit.

5 Breakdown: The Very Best Euphoric Chillout Mixes

This is a great chilled dance album. Best to listen to postclubbing to drown out earringing and soothe you to sleep.
This album has been mixed well and the order and choice of songs is just right. Best tracks on the album are 'Higher than the Sun' by Primal Scream, 'Touch Me' by Rui Da Silva and 'Synaesthesia' by Thrillseekers and Sheryl Deane.

4 Rewind 2001 mixed by Artful Dodger

This is a fantastic album and features hits like 'All I Want' by Mis-Teeq, 'Booo!' by Sticky as well as songs by Jaheim, Mr Reds and Haifa K.
The second CD is my favourite with tracks by Mystery Men, Wideboys and United Groove Collective.

3 Northern Exposure by Sasha and Digweed

The original in the Northern Exposure series- this is truly a classic. Its perfect to listen to on any occasion. My favourite tracks are 'These Waves' by Young American Prim, 'Obsession' by Fuzzy Logic and William Orbit's 'Water from a Vine leaf'.

2 The Chillout Session 2

The sequel to the original Chillout Session surpasses the first.
It has a well selected combination of remixes, classics and current hits.
The first CD kicks off with Dido's 'Here With Me' and other good tracks include 'At The River' by Groove Armada and 'Spellbound' bu Rae & Christian feat. Veba.
The second CD is my fave with Underworld, Faithless, Roger Sanchez and Delerium.

1 Desire David Seaman

This album is so brilliant that its impossible to put into words!
After Seamans outstanding past work he has a lot to live up to. I'm happy to say that this album will not let him down.
The album has funky tracks like the 'Breathe' by Science Dep
artment (my personal fave!) and 'Mindcircus'.
This is an album you can dig out months later and still love. It's not like some compilations where there's a maximum of six songs you like and you skip the rest.

Anyway all I've attempted to prove is that there are some compilations worth their salt.
I know my taste in music is erm different to most but there we go!
