Advantages: Great music to chill to
Disadvantages: None
I remember way back in the mid to late eighties, I heard a tremendously haunting song on the radio. Unfortunately this song never really managed to rise up to the giddy heights of the top ten or even the top twenty, but was nevertheless an extremely well written and performed song. This track was none other than 'Don't Dream It's Over' by the antipodean band Crowded House. A few years later I really got into music. At the dawn of the 1990s, on December 28th 1989, I bought my first CD player. During the first six months or so I could not afford many CDs as I was still at school, but over the years I have amassed a substantial collecion, mainly of singles, but also a several hundred albums. It is no surprise then that after remembering their first foray into the UK charts back in 1987, that I scoured record fairs and second-hand CD shops and stalls to find the albums of Crowded House. Thankfully, I have not been disappointed and I am now the proud owner of 'Crowded House', 'Temple Of Low Men', Woodface', 'Together Alone' and the Greatest Hits compilation (with a fantastic Live CD in a collectors edition). Not much has come our way recently from this band, aside from a collection of rarities and b-sides, but I for one am hoping that they will continue to go on making great music. So in conclusion, I would just like to say that I can whole-heartedly recommend the works of Crowded House to anyone who has not heard the silky smooth vocals and witty lyrics of the Brothers Finn - go on it's got to be worth a listen!

- 17/10/00 The reason that we have not heard from Crowded House is becuase they split, releasing The Best Of (Recurring Dream) and a few singles in 1996 as a parting shot. Doesn't change the fact that they are great to listen to. |
