Cult were formly known as Sothern Death Cult. The band was formed by their lead singer Ian Astbury in Bradford 1981.

They signed up with Beggars Banquet Records and brought out their debut record "Dreamtime" in 1984.

The band portrays a gothic like image by dressing all in balck, and had pale complextions, and used to wear love beads.

In 1985 they got their first big break with the record "Love", from this album came two top twenty singles "She Sells Sanctuary" and "Rain".

They were now known as a heavy rock band and got inspiration from Led Zeppelin and AC/DC.
Their next album "Electric" was pure rock n roll, it got to number 4 over here and 38 in the American charts.

Two years later their next album "Sonic Temple" was once again a massive hit over here and in America.

But by now the band was down to only three members and by 1990 they were down to being a duo, in 1991 they released "Ceremony" with the help of other artists, nevertheless it was a success due to them having an enormous load of fans.
