Manchester, Old Trafford Cricket Ground, July 10th 2002, 855 PM, the lights dim, a piano plays a familiar tune and before you know it the crowd is joining David Bowie in a rousing Life on Mars. The crowd had waited all day in pouring rain for their idol to appear and when he did looking majestic in a dapper black suit, waistcoat and white shirt, the soaked clothing and cold skin was forgotten about. This was to be David Bowie's only outdoor concert in the United Kingdom this year and after some excellent support from The Real People, The Electric Soft Parade, The Divine Comedy and Suede ( who performed a storming set which showcased 3 excellent ... "I'm a starman waiting in the sky..." He certainly was! David Bowie is a one man movement, a phenomenon, a law unto himself, one of the most revered artists of the second half of the Twentieth Century, but he has always been something of a contradiction. There are many who dismiss him as a plagiarist, a painted mimic, a shallow and flitting butterfly who was always relatively inconsequential, all form with no substance. What is indisputable, however, is the indelible mark that Bowie has left on Twentieth Century culture. He was a rock chameleon, surfing the wave of whatever was fashionable at the time, but always in the vanguard ... Read the complete review

Where did David get that lyric from? HOW did Mickey Mouse grow up a cow? That's one of the many, many questions teetering on your lips when listening to Bowie. His lyrics, his writing style sometimes leave you bewildered but there's someting that keeps you listening, keeps you interested and makes you wonder. That's his appeal (well apart from the fact he's just lovely!). He's so versatile and "on the edge" musically that it's impossible to put him into a category. He's tried it all, R&B (his 60's stuff), Rock (majority), Soul (Young Americans), Reggae (Tonight), Drum n Bass (Earhtling)..... the list is endless. David ... Read the complete review

www.teenagewildlife.com This is an excellent fan website dedicated to the work of David Bowie. It has to be the most informative fansite I've seen to date, and is updated daily. It's obviously a popular choice for any true fan of the man himself, as on my last visit more than three million people had visited, and I'm not in the least bit surprised. The front page can look quite intimidating at first, but give yourself a moment to take it all in and you'll find it's actually quite easy to navigate. So what does it offer that a lot of other sites don't? Well, the first thing I noticed on the front page was that you can ... Read the complete review

Despite the fact that he hasn't made even a quarter decent record since 1980 (and that means that he's been making absolute cack for over twenty years now!!!!), David Bowie is an unparalleled genius. This man is responsible for bringing us some of the greatest and most experimental (at least in terms of the mainstream) albums ever recorded, and he also helped along the careers of Iggy Pop and the Velvet Underground, for which we really should offer him felatio whenever he desires it. People mainly know David Bowie for 'Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars', a concept album about an alien who becomes a rock star, and which inspired a whole ... Read the complete review
