Advantages: Song great lyrics, Large catalogue of songs, Good for listening too when you need to know someone else is worse off than you!

Disadvantages: Some songs a bit too slow, Telling your friends that you like Del Amitri!

So I'm the first to write anything here. That's one hell of a challenge. Still finding it hard to believe that no-one has written anything here about the greatest band to come out of Scotland.

Or perhaps I should rephrase that. The most underrated band to come out of Scotland. Bands like Travis and Texas have overshadowed the superior Del Amitri because for some strange reason they seem to get more playtime and their record companies actually care whether they get any publicity or not.

OK, this is my own personal opinion after all so remember that if you write any comments at the end of this. Be kind!

The Dels frontman, Justin Currie, along with the lead guitarist, Ian Harvie, have been banging out great tunes since the early 80's,(the rest of the band have been changed since the original line up) but for some strange reason have failed to hit the big time. Every now and then a song will make it to the top 30, or if their lucky then a song will make it to the top 20, but generally they get left behind for the more popular bands, which is a shame, as a lot of their stuff is fantastically well written.

I suppose the Dels genre would be soft rock, although every now and then you'll get a guitar solo from Mr Harvie, for the most part its acoustic stuff. A lot of the songs tell stories too and are usually well thought out and pieced together

Most of they're songs are on the slow side I suppose which could account for the majority of them being disregarded although songs such as "Roll To Me" from the album Twisted tend to break that mould. You may even have heard that song before but just never knew who it was that sung it. Well now you know! They also sang the Scotland World Cup song 1998 (for all the good it did us...!) which was another great song which failed to achieve the status that it deserved.

It's sad, but it appears that Del Amitri have had more popularity in the States than
they have had in their own country. I think that given a bit of support by A&M their record company they could become a much bigger act than they are, and I don't think I'm the only one who thinks this.

So go on...the next time your in HMV and you see that sad looking Del Amitri single sitting there all on it's own, buy it and give it a home! You might be surprised when you listen to it!

Excellent to see someone else writing about the Dels! I'm completely unashamed to name myself a raving fanatic!! :o)

I'm ashamed to admit I quite like Del Amitri - good toe tapping tunes. Still the most under-rated band in Scotland award goes to Astrid. Anyone agree?

Great opinion I could never admit I like them though could I?
