... all know Sister Sledge...... a sweet and harmonious all-girl Disco band who were big in the late 70's. Sledge had been going since 1973, and it was just as the 70's ended and the 80's began that this album really catapulted them to mainstream recognition. ... Gees…….I Prefer The Gee Gees…….. I was just a kid when I first heard the brothers’ Gibb, it was the late sixties and Britain was in flower power mode, those days when it was cool to wear flowers in your hair. When the summers were long and hot and life was just so easy. I personally was a bit young for all that and my hair was just short, back and sides….. It was then I first heard them sing “Massachusetts”, not an easy word to spell may I add, but the song just blew me away. That unique sound of their voices that was to make hit after hit. Even though most of us students in Hull weren’t even born in the 1970’s we have a 70’s/80’s night in the Student Union displaying the fact that Disco music, no matter how cheesy or old, will always live on! Disco music is great and what’s even better is that most of our parents have all the hits from way back when so we don’t even need to red-facedly go into HMV to buy the hits.
