Chris De Burgh in general:
... De Burgh is a classic Singer Songwriter who has a talent unlike many others. We all remember him for Lady in Red but how many of us have gone out of their way to buy albums without that particular song in it like the one I would like to write about today. I stumbled across Chris de Burgh s Footsteps album. What is it? well it is a compilation of older style songs ranging from feel good factor songs to sadd... Firstly I was genuinely shocked to see that there are 22 pages worth of albums dedicated to the man, that is impressive for a man that died at 45 years old and made most of his recordings in an era where to be a black superstar was quite rare. Cliff Richard in general ... never a Cliff fan, he has often been in the background of my life somewhere. Then there are the black and white memories of Cliff backed by The Shadows on TV programmes such as "Juke Box Jury", "Top of the Pops" or "Ready Steady Go!" Later I got to see Cliff for real in the Christmas panto at the London Palladium in 1960-something. It was Cinderella and Cliff was playing "Buttons". Although heavily over-amplified he was good and the only thing I remember ... Read the full review: Congratulations! You're a Bachelor Boy! by ImVeryNice |

The King in general ... was the first, true master of rock n roll. Now I sit at my keyboard and pause, not wondering what to say next, but where to start... I will begin with a song he wanted to record fror his mother, called thats all right . He was heard, found and shoved in front of a microphone with a three piece backing band as the producers were aching to find a white singer with a black sound. I personally didn t think he sounded black at all. The key was that rock and roll had originated from black blues. It had been mixed with country (we have Bill Hayley to thank for that) and the white record makers at the time realised it could sell. Segregation in the mid southern states ...
