Eel's, they are one of the most undernoticed band of the last decade. For those who knew of them, they quickly became one of the favourites, to those who didn't they missed out on something very special. They had only the one big hit, of course being 'Beautiful Freak', a class song in all ways. Daisies of the Galaxy is the third album from American popsters The Eels. This album embodies all the greatness that has been with the band since the very begining, the quirky humour, the heartfelt lyrics. But this time builds on the previous two offerings by tying it all together with some wonderful tunes. That is not to say that the previous two albums were bad, but they certainly had their weaker moments. This time though, the Eels have really come up trumps. Eels are an interesting band, completely led by frontman and songwriter E. Their debut album, Beautiful Freak, is the only one I’ve ever bothered with, and it’s definitely got some decent stuff on it. Novocaine For The Soul, their debut single, attracted me, and I still like it. Their newer stuff, however, does a lot less for me. I think that perhaps E’s seeming obsession with originality kind of gets in the way of appealing songwriting, and as such, the band has lost something. The music is, however, pleasant on the ears, and often quite calming, so don’t take my word for it, give them a go before making any decisions. ...
