The Electric Light Orchestra. Some truly wonderful musical memories from my childhood. Catchy, if over produced, pop at its very best! A Beatles influenced band, the phoenix rising from the flames of Birmingham band The Move, ELO dominated the charts across two decades. While Jeff Lynne, with accompanying perm, is perhaps the man best remembered, it was guitarist Roy Wood who had the idea of delivering popular music with classical instruments! Bev Bevan, an unspectacular drummer completed the line up as Lynne provided keyboards and guitar support to Wood. Let's face it, Jeff Lynne wanted to be a Beatle, and it's probably because ELO were so like The Beatles in many ways, that I like them. Right, having got that out of the way, the truth is that ELO produced some innovative, different and downright brilliant music right throughout the Seventies and early Eighties. My favourite ELO albums are 'A New World Record' and 'Out Of The Blue.' 'A New World Record' is a great rock album, pure and simple - just listen to 'Do Ya' for proof.
