... on to record a great many more fantastic rock n' roll songs, although after 1960 these became more and more rare, as he instead tended to record less interesting songs for his tame movies. Following a comeback to rock music in 1968 however Elvis gave up the movies and instead went back to live concerts, both in Las Vegas and on tour all around the USA. It was during this time that he recorded some of my favourite songs such as Burning love and Always On My Mind. Elvis' music is an essential listen for anyone with eve...more

Crowned Review Elvis Presley in general: WHY? WHY? WHY? (3194 words)

Now, I realise that this is maybe not the 'hippest' or 'coolest' of ops! But then again, I have never proclaimed to be either and even if I did, both of my 'top 10' ops would belittle my claims. But as, with time and experience, many of you out there in 'memberland' diverse from the book reviews and tampax ops (and that's just the guys!!) to writing from the heart about something that you have endured, experienced, or just care enough to write an op on. I have embarked upon such a opinion. And although I'm inching closer to the hallowed halls of Speakers Corner, I'm taking it slowly, after all ... you guys ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Elvis Presley in general: The King (1634 words)
by - written on 17/04/02 (Very useful, 159 readings)
Rating:

Many of my friends and family find it somewhat humorous that I am such a big fan of Elvis Presley. They think that at the age of 28 I should be more interested in modern music. The trouble is that I have never found any more 'modern' artists who can hold a candle to the fun that can be had in being a fan of Elvis. My other big musical love is The Beatles, but they would definitely be second choice if I had to make a list! Having said that, I am well aware that in 2002, 25 years after the death of The King, there may well be people out there who don't know the background to the man or his music, so I have decided to come here onto ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Down At Lonely Street (1003 words)

With his right knee moving very slightly and his lip curled to almost a sneer he began to sing: Welllll, since mah beh-bee left me Ah've found a new place to dwell It's down at the end of Lonely Street It's Heartbreak Hotel This was the 28th of January 1956. The television show was called the Jimmy Dorsey Stage Show and this was, in my opinion, the moment that Elvis Presley became King. Heartbreak Hotel was released by RCA records as a single, on 78 & 45 rpm, the same week, backed with I Was The One. By February it was in the USA Top 100 and proceeded up the charts until it reached number one and stayed there for six ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Elvis Presley in general: Elvis never left the building (235 words)

I saw Elvis live in concert two nights ago! Now, I know you're all going to think I'm crazy or something, but he was live...on video! In the CIA in Cardiff, Elvis took centre stage by means of a rather large - god knows how large - screen. With the help of his original band and a small orchestra, Elvis lifted the roof. The capacity crowd went wild, there may have even been a few heart attacks (judging by the average age). I went with four mates, and having only been an Elvis fan for a couple of months, wasn't ready for the shock came upon me. Age obviously counts for nothing when Elvis is concerned, because I've been to a ...  Read the complete review
