When I was a young lad, about eleven thought away.
We were much into other singers like Johnny Ray with his crying in the rain and Helen Shapiro walking back to happiness.
Anyway, most of us didn't think much to Elvis at first but it did not take long for us to review our thoughts on this.
His singing was superb but we objected to his swivel hips because I guess the girls were crazy over him and I suspect we were jealous.
We were to eager to put him down at every opportunity but it was a lost cause.
His songs were fabulous, his singing superb and his charisma great.
His songs are as popular now as ever they were.
Do you know, I still get a lump in my throat when I play his 'Old Shep' and can't help but sing along when I play 'Teddy Bear'.
I think he is also popular with the younger ones of today, they certainly know his songs and about him.
I can never understand why he would not come to England, he refused but he did go to Germany while in the forces.
His films were a flop, his acting was abismal and it was only his singing in them that pulled through.
However, he was a tremendous singer and an icon in the world of music.
One other thing I can recall is that when Cliff Richard came on the scene, it was uncanny how similar they were!
Same hairstyle, swivel hips, the curled lip and style of singing, ummm
Hemade his mark anyway didn't he? I did not say he tried to copy him now!
Yes, for me Elvis was up there among the greats of R & R with Buddy, Everlys, Fats D, Platters, Little R and so on and so on.
