Ever since his debut single "My Name is" was released, I was hooked on Eminem. When I saw the video, the first thing, I'm sorry to say, that went through my head was, "loser." I took one look at him (you know, a white rapper?!? gimme a break.) and decided that he was probably another Vanilla Ice, but I gave him a second chance. I went and got the CD - which is full of coarse language, I might add, but I'm ok with it.

Many people write reviews on Eminem and talk about him having an annoying voice and producing the same kinds of songs, and I must make my point!!

About the voice - that's what makes him so funny. His lyrics are worthless, and sometimes hilariously dirty, but the way he presents it to his audience just makes it that much better. Also, people say he's ugly; I say he's goofy looking. No I don't think he's "hot" but his face makes the videos even funnier to watch!! (That isn't really an insult to him...)

As for the point about his unoriginal style, that can be said for many of today's most popular groups/singers, including 98 degrees, Backstreet boys, NSYNC, britney spears, QTip, ... the list goes on. The reason? Well, if you have most of the people working on composing songs for the same artists (as well as other artists, which is why NSYNC and BSB sound so alike it's uncanny...), chances are, their style will carry into all their songs. But Eminem actually has a good sense of style - not thatt it's not distasteful, because it is. What I mean is, he comes up with such clever rhymes that get stuck in, well, my head really easily.

No, don't take this the wrong way, I'm not defending him. In fact, I'm standing unbiased; I don't really like him, but I don't dislike him either!!

One reviewer said that "Pairing Eminem with Dr. Dre is like pairing Shania Twain with Courtney Love..."

Well, I'd actually li
ke to see Shania and Courtney put their heads together and produce some songs. That would be interesting. (i see it now; Shania/Courtney - Marilyn Manson meets Mr. Rogers...)

But, back to Eminem...I think that pairing Dre with Eminem was the best for Eminem's career. With a seasoned rapper like Dre and a young, talented (yes, he's awesome at freestyling...) rapper-to-be like Eminem, they made a good pair. Also, it rekindled Dre's rap career (Chronic 2001 would not have been good AT ALL if it weren't for Eminem and all the other new artists that Dre worked with). So there's my two cents on the dynamic duo.

"Eminem is the epitome of a sell out. His songs are pointless and shallow. Plenty of artists in the music business have made their frustration about Eminem public. For instance, the Insane Clown Posse has a much downloaded parody of Eminem's "Slim Shady" called "Slim Anus." If you dislike Eminem as much as I do, and you haven't heard it, I would suggest that you do." That is what someone else wrote...well, here we go again.

How is Eminem the "epitome" of a sellout when he's sold so many copies of his CDs, and his concerts are always sold-out shows almost right after tickets go on sale? I don't know, but maybe the author of that review should consult Webster, as I tell many many people.

To the "his songs are pointless and shallow...". Well, that's what makes them funny. If you listen to just ONE song, you'll hear clever rhyme schemes and funny "storylines," as I call them. If you listen carefully, you can actually hear where the song is leading to.

Like, in his new song "The Real Slim Shady," he incorporates Tom Green, the Bum Bum Song,

"sometimes I just wanna get on TV and let loose/but I can't, but it's cool to see Tom Green hump a dead moose!/My bum is on your lips, my bum is on your
lips..."

If you had someone with a deep, low voice say that, you'd be disgusted and probably call the cops, but if you hear it with Eminem's high and somewhat squeaky voice, then you'll just sit there and crack up. I'll admit, his songs are worthless, but it's worth a good laugh.

There are some songs that are not so worthless - he has this candid way of talking about life. He'll tell you what other people won't.

"I'm like a head trip to listen to/cuz I'm only giving you things that you and your friends talk about inside your living room/the only difference is that I got the b*lls to say it in front of yall and I don't gotta be false in sugar-coating it all...." That is very true, and in certain songs, he does actually teach us something. (Not in the way that he directly tells us, but he tells us about experiences that we know are horrible...he, of course, makes them sound funny)

Now, one girl said that Eminem is a good role model - I don't think so. Although I like his music, music and person are totally different things. Look at him - he's done drugs, had kids (he's like 22...and it was out of wedlock, I'm almost positive...), was violent, cusses a lot... and that list goes on too! I'm not saying that you cannot improve your character from listening to him, because you can. You just need to know how much you should follow, and how much you should learn through his experiences. He learned the hard way, now it's our turn to just make sure we don't follow in his footsteps.

Final thought - His first big CD was "The Slim Shady LP," which I know is definitely full of funny tracks. The new CD, "the Marshall Mathers LP," is coming out May 23, so if you like the first CD, try the second.

Hi I think he is great, his lyrics are so good, pitty about the language it stops kids from buying it.

Hi, I thought this was a very good, detailed op, but could I suggest one tiny thing. In the first paragraph, you called him a certain name that I think that at least a few dooyooers may take offence at and it might be an idea to change it to save you getting Not Usefuls from them.

Erm, hope you don't mind me commenting but I wouldn't want to see the ratings go down due to one particular word. I'll shut up now :)
