Advantages: Found a new talent in producing
Disadvantages: Croaky, annoying voice, NOT a rapper, more of a pop figure
As a strong rap fan myself I know a good rapper when I hear one, and eminem ain't good. The Source (A New York based hip hop magazine) branded eminem as an 'wannabe nigga' a.k.a wigga! Eminem has throughout his short career tried to fit in with the west coast rap image.
As most people know rap is known for its explicit lyrics and its tendency to skit other members of the public. Eminem has done just this but he's takin it too far. Real rappers like DMX and Jay-Z rap about real life tradgidies and stories from the hood but Eminem just cusses gay's and his mum. It's the only thing he can rap about and it hasn't gained him any respect from the true hip hop camps.
Eminem was first discovered by interscope representatives at a Detroit freestyle competition. This is when a rapper, hoping to hit the big time, goes head to head against another and they insult each other in a rapping style. Eminem went through the rounds destroying his opponents but when he reached the final he struggled. He struggled because a black rapper from South Central Los Angeles challenged his white colour and his tendency to rap about the same things like whether his opponent looked gay or wore funny shoes. Eminem couldn't handle this so he lost. Interscope failed to notice his weakness and signed him.
To Interscope's credit they have made alot of money from Eminem. But he's just cheating himself, he is no rapper he's a pop cult figure. His average fan is now a 6 year old English girl, he is by no means a rapper he doesn't deserve that title.
Also his voice is migrain material, the constant drone that is in his songs is just boring now. People have started to catch on and it must be about 80% of the sales for D12 are now due to the true rhyming skills of rappers like kon artist and swifty, NOT Eminem.
But......this is a big but, Eminem has found a new talent in producing as some of the beats that he has
created for 'Devil's night' are true class and truley deserved of credit.
Eminem will continue to sell but he won't annoy me if he no longer continues to brand himself as a rapper. All credit to the pop cult figure for selling all those albums but just drop the hard man act and get a life!
