Advantages: one day he'll die
Disadvantages: it mightn't be for a while
Although the modern pop acts have scaled new heights in their crapness, at least they don’t pretend to be anything more than puppets. The same cannot be said of Eminem. He has swore his way to adoration, everything he says and stands for has been held up as the One and True Way. He has come in on a wave of controversy, becoming the new craze for easily influenced eleven year olds, the newest play thing in a line that includes the likes of Tellytubbies and Toy Story action figures. And there is nothing to suggest that he is anything more than that. He, like the toys, has become a major tabloid page filler, people regularly commenting on the violent, sexist, racist and homophobic tendencies of his lyrics. You know, the sort of controversy that the mindless sheep of this world eat up. He couldn’t have for a better sales gimmick. The music is standard rap fare, practically the same beat in every song, practically the same lyrical content as in every other one. Only Stan dares to be anything other than the same as the last song, and even then it still ends up being irritating and foul mouthed. Now I don’t want to be completely contradictory, even Radiohead have sworn once or twice, but proper artists and bands don’t use as the focal point of the song, the part that will get the eleven year olds to giggle at how naughty they’re being. To be honest, I don’t like rap or hip hop as a whole, every single song is trying to sound as dangerous or menacing as the last, each trying to be as controversial in either the actual song or the video. Frankly, it’s boring and pitiful that somebody could reduce themselves to that level. To take the right to express yourself and to abuse it such a foul and disgusting level is unforgivable. I know this is a pretty short op, but to carry on would be to repeat myself, and I think I’ve pretty much made my point anyway.

- 12/09/02 It's all about what you like and what you don't like, i like punk, metal, ska, grunge and the like. But i also like Eminem, and i don't listen to him just purely to listen to him swear. I think the song's are good and most of them have meanings to them, the odd ones don't and the odd ones are not to e listened to more than five times.
Good op

- 04/09/01 I agree that Eminem is a tad over-the-top when it comes to swearing. I generally respect his wish to make money to support his family though :-P
Recently I saw Eminem play at Reading Festival (not through choice). I saw this young boy, about 10 years old, dressed in the blue dungaree jeans, with a cardboard white face-mask over his head, just like "the real eminem". It was hilarious to see this, however, serious points have to be made about the boys parents who were accompanying him. If I had children I wouldn't want to promote them listening to such questionable material....
