At the end of 1990 Erasure were in the record books as being the most successful british duo of all time. Vince Clarke (the straight one)and Andy Bell (the flamboyant gay lead singer) made a perfect musical pair. Andy's use of double breathing while singing (a difficult technique) merged wonderfully with Vinces excellent keyboard skills. Songs like Sometimes, A Little Respect, Chains Of Love and Blue Savannah showcased their brilliant song writing ability. If you break down each Erasure song you will find that they are Structurally perfect and each one can be played via guitar, Wheatus recently recorded one of Erasures best know songs A Little Respect and ... Ah, an awful group from a bygone era. Erasure will always be remembered, for they were major contibutors to the UK music scene in the 80s. This, inevitably, also means that their music was abysmal. Go on, have a listen to any of it, it’s dire. Meaningless, synthesized dross. It does, however, have a lot of charm. Hideous, teeth-grinding charm it may be, but it is charm nonetheless. Erasure are a great British synth-based group formed in 1985 by the duo Vince Clarke and Andy Bell. Before forming Erasure, Clarke was one of the founding members of Depeche Mode. He left after recording only one album with the group, choosing to form Yazoo with Alison Moyet instead. When Alison decided to follow a solo career, he placed an advertisement for vocalists within a British music newspaper and Andy Bell was selected as his partner.
