Eternal were the top UK girlband in the UK for many years during the 90’s. Their debut album “Always and Forever” was most noticed due to its powerful tracks such as the inspiring "Just A Step From Heaven", which is one of my all tie faves from this South London band which consisted of sisters Easter and Vernie Bennet, Louise Nurding and Kelle Bryan. Other releases off “Always And Forever” include the debut single “Stay” which was a top ten hit of which I can recall, “Crazy” another funky little number which entered the top 5, the love inspired “Oh Baby I…” which is a great love song and finally “So Good”, which is a great feel good track about being together.

One of my favourites off this album was the arranged version on Amazing Grace which I thought was amazing as it was all funked up using beats that was made by use of the voice and so on which tended to modernise and make this track seem more gospel in nature. Easter Bennet, the lead singer has a great voice and this album reflected that perfectly.

In 1995, Louise Nurding decided to leave the group to pursue a solo career which took off very well and still is around. This announcement was sure to herald the end of the biggest girl group in the UK at the time but surprisingly enough, the bounced back with the great track “Power Of A Woman” which was a much fuller sounding song although a member down.

The Girls followed up by releasing their second album “Power Of A Woman” which was also a great album which included great tracks such as “I am Blessed” which is a great ballad which truly is an all time classic which is relaxing as well as awe inspiring and the R’n’B track “Good Thing” which was also a big hit.

The girls next album “Before The Rain” was released and included the number one selling single “
;I Wanna Be The Only One” featuring Bebe Winans which stayed in the charts for many weeks.
Sadly, once again another member of the group decided to leave the group, this time it was Louise’s long time friend Kelle who later released her debut single “Higher Than Heaven” this was sure to put a stop to the girl group but there was no putting them down. They bounced back with a new single and album and a more modern sound “What You Gonna Do” was not a huge hit as previous releases and the album more or less bombed as well! It seems that the girls have lost their spark!

Since then, they have not released any more singles but have released a greatest hits album containing all the hit songs. Its sad in a way that they had to go but in a way, its good for they will always be remembered and they needed to make way for the newer artists such as Destiny’s Child.

It’s always the same in the music business!
