Advantages: The Voice, The Guitars
Disadvantages: The Tedium
First off...I like her voice. Second I know she died tragically young. None of these things help me to like the music to the extent that some others obviously do. But it might just be me. This stuff is steadfastly middle of the road fayre. Over The Rainbow is a wonderful song but John Martyn does a great version of it on Sapphire. Judy Garland's however is still the best. OK - I don't think I'm going to be too popular, but I have to assess Eva from the music's point of view, and so far I've found it to be pleasant enough but quite tedious and I can't for the life of me see what the fuss is about, apart from her voice, but the material is for the most part quite weak. OK - OK - I'll go back and keep listening, maybe it'll sneak up on me, but I've had both albums for close to a year and I've played them at home and in the car, and I keep switching them off. OK - OK - OK it's me, I'm the one at fault here. I apologise, but I can't help feeling that this stuff will disappear without trace, just as it rose without trace. Please help me to understand what I'm missing. I suppose the fact that I can only recommend it for a Hyacinth Bucket style Candelight supper says it all for me. Sorry.
