The late nineties saw a massive resurgence in the popularity of dance music within the mainstream. A sudden rise in fashion of the likes of Balearic holiday resorts, most notably Ibiza, saw dance music rain down on the top 40 like, er, rain in the glorious summer of 1999. Trance music was the order of the day and soulful beats were soon replaced for some more bangin' tunes as the likes of Oakenfold and Sasha began their journey to become "Superstar DJs". And sure enough, even to this day, professionals like the aforementioned can command a five-figure sum for one night's work. But as with everything, you really can have too much of a good ... The big shame is of course, that there plenty of talented Dj's and producers around, but he's the one that stumbled on the pop formula first, (which in case you don't know means one big fat beat...followed by ... First of all, I have to admit I haven't heard anything from his original album, so I can't comment on that, but having heard music from Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars, Norman Cook has dropped slightly in my estimation since his 2nd album. You've Come A Long Way Baby was a great album - although it introduced a slight 'pop-py' feel, the tunes were great when played loudly, catchy, and made good listening. Now he's moved on, and unfortunately not in the way I had hoped. While his latest tracks are still good tunes, I think his harder, more rockier feel doesn't give his tunes quite the same atmosphere as before. They ... Read the complete review

For me, Fatboy Slim is quite an amazing artist. He is only brought out a few albums to date (all of which I own) but these have all been widely and hugely successful and contain some outstanding tracks. Fatboy Slim is well know for bringing out interesting and eye catching videos, and I feel that these all go well with the music. I especially liked the video to "Praise You", where what looked like amateur footage was shown of people performing a dance act in a public place, which I found hilarious. I know that Fatboy Slim has already won multiple awards for his work at lots of major ceremonies, but I am not quite sure what for. I think he did win one ... Read the complete review
