Advantages: Fresh talent in the dance scene!
Disadvantages: A shame his mentor, Tony De Vit could not be around to see his success.
Undeniably the godfather of the new hard house revolution, the late great Tony De Vit clearly made many friends and influenced many people. The DJ, Producer and Remixer, who tragically passed away on 2nd July 1998 due to bronchial pneumonia/exhaustion was undoubtedly a true legend of dance music and is still one of the most respected names anywhere on the club scene. Bringing back a sound from the early 1990's was never going to be an easy task, but Tony brought the new Hard House movement bang up to date and into fashion. Much like a manager of a sports team, De Vit truly cared about the scene he loved and so set about nurturing new young talent "through the ranks" so to speak, and the brightest star of all is Fergie. This young DJ has already been crowned a "hero of 2000" on Pete Tong's Essential Selection show and frequently speaks out about Hard House and in particular, Tony De Vit. He remains true to his original style and track selection - his most famous outburst recently came when he spoke out on a lot of music being "Fisher Price"-like and quoted that he would not play what De Vit wouldn't either. Already, Fergie has established quite a cult following and in such a short space of time has released surefire hit tunes such as "Deception" with BK. His "Harder, Faster" mix album is, in my opinion his best to date. You really know when an artist has "made it" when they do their own "Essential Mix" on Radio One. Fergie did this for the first time this week and will probably be the first of many. Pioneering this new sound along with messrs Lisa Lashes, BK, Lisa Pin-Up, Anne Savage, and Rachel Auburn, expect great things from this talented crop of fresh DJ talent.
