simoncardwell Bob Dylan in general: ... do you start with Dylan? He s had various spells of greatness, a few fallow periods in between & that rarest of creatures, someone who lost it & then got it back. His first album came out in 1962 & featured more than a nod to his then-idol Woody Guthrie, there were hints of talent there, but precious little that hinted at the huge creative leap he would take the following year. 1963 s The Freewhe...

nilo0901 Tom Waits in general
... can imagine alot has been written about Mr Waits. Alot in awe, some in bemusement. He kind of attracts a cult following. Like Marmite, you love him or hate him. I love him and always have but what secured it for me was Tom Waits live. I was privileged to see him live in Paris last year on his European leg of the Glitter and Doom tour and was pleasantly surprised to find not only a great musician and songwriter, but a great entertainer. I had always had it in my head that seeing a grumpy and somewhat pretentious man reluctantly performing on stage when he would rather be locked away in a studio would disappoint me. Well, not so.... Mr Waits entertains in the classic tra...

Robin_Hod12 Bob Dylan in general

Some musicians inspire the generation that they live in, but few have the ability to inspire and encapsulate multiple generations, which is something that is key in the quality o Dylan, he is able to get to the heart of something and provide it in a medium that can reach anyone. Many people can t quite grasp what it is that...

... born Christa Päffgen is a dense and rather ungainly artist who can be quite unaccessible to those not used to her voice/style. Most recognised for her vocal contributions to The Velvet Undergrounds first album in which she lent her voice and defining interpretations to Lou Reed songs such as "i ll be your mirror", "Femme Fatale" and the majestic "All tommorows parties". Nico had a few recordings prior to this however in the early 60 s she worked with Jimmy Page and Andrew Loog Oldman on the rather innoffensive single "I m not ready" which was released on the Immediate label. This was not a success however and a chance introdu...
