Disadvantages: It's all you'll want to listen to for ages..
After the tragic end to Nirvana nobody expected the media dubbed "ringo of nirvana" to achieve anything anymore in the music industry. They however underestimated David Grohl.
After Nirvana Dave went on to put together a demo album called Pocket watch - Late ! On this album he played all his instruments and wrote all the songs by himself. You can download the songs from the internet as few copies exist ,and it is really cool even though it's quite raw. It shows hints of what might happen on future records ( the intro for colour pictures of marigolds is an acoustic track is similar to that of my hero off the colour and the shape, for example. ) He gave the album way to some of his friends and one of them who worked for a record company urged him to make a proper record. He assembled a band who included the guitarist who used to play with Nirvana live and they began work with their first self titled lp under the name foo fighters ( Slang for U.F.Os) . I personally really love that album ,even though the band was only beginning to flex their musical muscles. They played the tent at reading and no one could have predicted the response the tent was truly packed out to see them play.
The band went on to record the magnificent album The colour and the Shape , which had a more rock feel to the previous more punk rock orientated foos. That album has so many classic tracks, opening with the tender doll which runs straight into the jangling punk of monkey wrench . And there's everlong- such a beautiful song, one of my all time favourite foos or any other bands track .
Foo fighters have developed quite a massive fan base of loyal fans through their highly commercial videos and music which isn't saturated with the usual ego of some bands.
After on the There's nothing left to loose tour, which sees the band take a more commercial form I finally got to see them live. Dave Grohl is a real rock treasure he is able to entertain the audi
ences without spoiling the live performance, and the music was all I had hoped and more from them as a live band.
