Advantages: Funky, Will MAKE you dance round your kitchen., Variety.

Disadvantages: Don't know what the hell they're on about half the time.

When i got hold of the freestylers first album, "We Rock Hard" i wasn't sure what to expect. But it was clear from the first couple of blistering tracks that this was gonna be an album of breaks and beats that was slickly produced yet survived with a raw and dirty edge. Lovely.

The freestylers have this knack of sounding fresh and new, yet take you back to the days of throwing shapes on the mat, and spinning frantically on your bum on any polished surface if, like me you can't actually breakdance.

Beats and bass are the order of the day, interspersed with some extremely cool samples. Sam L Jackson used to great effect "excuse me. Did I break your concentration? I didn't mean to do that, please continue." and back into another classic breakbeat. Or check the phone call to the record shop "you don't have bang bang boogie?"

Their are various guests on the album too. Definition of Sound have a welcome cameo on the mike alongside the lovely laid back licks on "here we go".

There are a couple of tracks on the album that are skippable where they wander into the realms of dodgy electro-funk which i wasn't too sure about back in the day either. However, in general there's track after classic track that anyone who likes a boogie can't afford to miss. I defy anyone not to join in with shouting MR BAAAD MAN after a couple of listens. Maybe i love this so much because it's like the soundtrack to my life living in officially the dodgiest part of britain known as "murder mile" to the force. Don't make the mistake of thinking this is an album about guns and bitches oh no. This is unadulterated fun, pure and simple.

DAMN! BEEN CALLED BACK TO WORK. SORRY TO REEL YOU IN AND CUT YOU OFF LIKE THIS, PROMISE TO COMPLETE THIS WITH A REVIEW OF THE EXCELLENT NEW ALBUM PRESSURE POINT, AND A LIVE REVIEW. THE GIST IS IF YOU LIKE A BOUNCE AND YOU'VE HAD EN
OUGH HOUSE GARAGE AND TECHNO, GIVE EITHER ALBUM A SPIN AND START WEARING OUT YOUR LINO. AGAIN APOLOGIES. I WILL COMPLETE THIS SOON
