... the top end of the charts time and again. With two brilliant albums to their name - Garbage and Version 2.0 - and the brilliant vocals of Scottish-born Shirley Manson, they are well worth a listen to - even if it is not he sort of music you usually like, as there is such a diversity of style within the albums with some slow song and some fast and loud. The B-sides to some of the singles are sometimes better than the A-side (in my opinion!) and so you may find something you like there. So go ahead, go and buy a sing...more

Premium Review Garbage in general: All pink and fluffy? (115 words)

One of my favourite albums, though may not be to all tastes! Garbage got into the charts and got noticed by songs like "Stupid Girl", and although this is a great song, it is quite distinctly different to most of the others on the album. Deeply subversive, with some brilliant, dark songs like "Only happy when it rains" and "As heaven is wide" are almost on Par with the likes of earlier Placebo songs for the really bassy, powerful depression stuff. Not an album or group for the average teenybopper, but if you like your music with some guts, then sit back and become absorbed. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Garbage? No, they're no just a load of old rubbish (110 words)

When I first got Garbage's album, I listened to it non-stop and it still holds truth today. It is a great listen and is cool for long journeys as it is quite a long CD to keep you entertained for miles. The songs are a cross between rock, pop and techno, with some pretty cool guitar riffs, a cool bumping keyboard and some really brill drum rhythms. The singing is cool too and the originality is groovy. You can tell when Garbage are playing because they tend to have their own unique sound, but I can't really explain it. You'll just have to listen for yourself. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Polished (91 words)

Garbage are a great band. Shunned by many when they first surfaced, for being a bit too polished, they nonetheless made a great impression. The gorgeous Shirley Manson sings marvellously, and the tunes are brilliantly crafted for impact. They go quiet in all the right places, loudly explode at all the correct junctures, and start, stop and change direction at the best points for such things. Pseudo-rock made with dance music values, in a way. I for one can’t wait for the third album, as I find Garbage fiercely entertaining. ...  Read the complete review
