I did predict that Gareth Gates would win and I was a touch shocked when he didn’t win. The judges in particular loved him and he seemed the ideal Pop Idol, good looks and a good singer. But, like many things in life it wasn’t meant to be. However, despite coming second he’s was offered a contract by Simon Cowell and on 18th March is set to release his debut single. Gareth Gates was the second youngest at seventeen, he came from Bradford and won comprehensively in his way to the final in the group stages with over 60% of the votes when he sang ‘Flying without Wings’.
