Advantages: Great singer, A good, positive, role model for young people, Damned cute!!
Disadvantages: Lost "Pop Idol", VERY Westlife-like
He may not have won Pop Idol, but in my opinion, Gareth is the real success of this competition. Firstly, may I just give a huge grin and many thanks do the DooYou Crew who accepted my request for this sexy bloke to be added to the category! So yeah, if you missed the addictive, clinching awe-inspiring 18 weeks that was Pop Idol, I'll give you a brief outline. 10,000 applicants were auditioned from all over the country in the nation's biggest search for a star. After various processes of elimination, the final 10 were selected. Gareth was one of these final ten, and by the 18th week, it was just him and Will Young in the final. 9.2 million votes were cast, Will gaining 4.6m of them, and Gareth marginally losing out, gaining 4.1m. Will (who can be found under the "bands" category) won a recording contract with BMG, and his first single, a cover of Westlife's "Evergreen" and "Anything Is Possible" is released on 25th February. After the show, Simon Cowell, boss of BMG offered Gareth a contract also. His first single is a cover of the Righteous Brother's "Unchained Melody" and reportedly also a cover of Westlife's "Evergreen" as the B-side, released on the 18th March. Another artist on the BMG label, George Michael, is releasing his come-back single on the same day, so Gareth faces tough competition. Recent news confirmed, is that Gareth is going to be supporting Westlife on their European tour, beginning on 3rd April, which included several UK dates. So, anyone who has tickets (ME! ME! ME! lol) is in for a double treat. Gareth is also said to have an advertising contract with a large, international company... I have no idea which one though, sorry. Hopefully we'll soon see his cute little face slattered over our magazines, and TVs (in the nicest sense of the word) So, it seems like Mr Gates has his short-term future sewn up at l
east. He may not have won the mighty Pop Idol status, but he's certainly not doing bad for himself as of yet. I'll certainly be cheering him on at the concert, and wishing him all the best. Clare Disclaimer: He's not *that* much younger than me, so I'm not being TOO wrong, lol

Cwej1 - 22/02/02 Hm... never really watched it, apart from the final (my boyfriend forced me!)... and I felt Will was the better of the two. I hate the manufactured-ness of it all though. I think I'm gonna be writing an op on Pop Idol soon anyway, so I won't bore you with my thoughts! |
