In my eyes Gareth is a ?winner? too. I thought he was gracious defeat and despite the obvious disappointments he accepted it really well. The end of Pop Idol will by no means the end of Gareth Gates, the seventeen year old from Bradford.

There has been a lot of attention on his speech problems and his stuttering but that aside, this lad as talent. He has the Pop Idol looks and will be a big hit with young girls. He will be a star there?s no doubt about that. And despite, being the favourite for Pop Idol for so long the fact he lost on a very narrow margin.

So why did he lose?
I think the audience Gareth sings for is very narrow, young girls may like him but the 30 year old guy won?t. Also, he seems to only be able to sing boy band songs and anything over that seems to be to much for him. This point was evident was the fact that his best song ?Flying without wings? which he sang really well. He actually sang that song three times showing that unlike Will who could sing songs from almost every decade and make them is own, Gareth would struggle. As a result this would mean that his fan base would be limited whereas Will could sing for any audience and come out in top.

Despite that however, I was touched on how moved he was when his friend Zoe was voted out. He showed genuine sadness and he wasn?t afraid to show it on TV. I know Simon Cowell said he would offer him a contract and it won?t be long before he releases his debut single.

Gareth will be naturally easy to manage, he is willing to work hard and despite his stuttering isn?t scared of anything-he?s not scared to give it a go. He takes criticism well and in the rounds came back better. I think it will take time for him to make is mark though. He needs to separate himself from boy bands to be successful in the long run. I am sure with hard work he can be ?Gareth Gates? and not a copy of Westlife. He has talent, the song ?Yesterday? which he sang really well prov
ed it.

I don?t think his Mum has anything to be disappointed about, he has done well to come so far and to comes second is nothing to be embarrassed about. The only thing that worries me is that is stuttering could be a problem in interviews when the presenters are not as nice as Ant and Dec. But, I am sure people can look beyond that because he can sing!

Look out for his debut single in mid March~a cover of the Righteous Brother's ?Unchained Melody?.

I won't be buying his CD - bit too boy bandy for my liking & a bit of a wet song too!

Great op though!

I certainly wouldn't be embarrassed if I was his Mum. I still think he will go far.
