Advantages: Geri is very pretty, She has an amazing voice, Has been very successful
Disadvantages: She has been through eating disorders, Some people prefered her when she was a Spice Girl
After reading in the paper's recently that the Spice Girls were planning to be re-united and go on a worldwide tour, I decided to write this opinion. Geri Halliwell is one of my idols and always has been, ever since she had the guts to get up and leave the Spice Girls. I suppose she was also my favourite spice girl as well, but when you look at the rest of them, is it so surprising? She seemed to change from Ginger Spice to Geri Halliwell overnight, on the night when she was supposed to perform live with the other four Spice's, but instead claimed she was ill. The next day all over the papers were headlines such as 'Ginger shock horror' and 'Five becomes Four'. Following this, she released a statement saying how sorry she was but she didn't wish to continue with her career in the Spice Girl's. This was one of the best decisions she could have made. The last song that the Spice Girl's made before Geri left, was excellent. But the song they produced afterwards, 'Goodbye' had just that little something missing. As soon as Geri split with the Spice Girl's (May 1998), she stayed in hiding so it seemed for quite a few months before announcing that she was back with a solo career of her own that she would prove to make a success. She told the press that she had had time to think whilst staying at her friend George Michaels house in St. Tropez, France. Her image completely changed. When she was a Spice Girl she was perceived as being a bit of a 'tart', but she soon became very conservative, wearing business like suits and losing the low cut tops and tiny short skirts. Long gone are the days when Geri Halliwell stepped out at the Brit Awards wearing just a Union Jack dress that covered the obscene body parts. Nowadays, she is seen in nothing less than hot pants and a t-shirt. Not only that, in my opinion, she has got a nicer figure than she did have when she was a Spice Gi
rl. I know that the way she went about getting it, wasn't exactly a brilliant idea, but she does look great and hopefully she will start eating properly again. In October 1998, Geri was announced as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador. She has followed in the footsteps of Audrey Hepburn and attended many UN summits. At one of them she had to cope with many anti-abortion protestors, and at another one she let out her own feelings of how she felt the pressure to lose her virginity when she was younger. Geri asked for sex education to be taught to everyone. Geri Halliwell also visited the Philippines to promote safer sex. Geri has also spoken freely about the fear of having breast cancer when she was a teenager. At the young age of eighteen she had to have an operation to remove a small lump from her breast. Now she continues to do work for charities relating to breast cancer, including the UK Cancer Research Fund. Her first solo single, 'Look at Me' was quite a big success, especially when in the video she dressed up as a bride, a nun and a bit of a vamp. I think that this song was basically to show that she could get rid of the old image and that she could make it on her own. The next song she released was 'Lift me up' which was quite a catchy tune. Many song'?s later, and we found that she was bringing out her first solo album - Schizophonic. Schizophonic was a fantastic album. Lots of different types of songs, ballads, love tunes and dancey tracks all on one Cd. Between 'Lift me up' and her next song 'Mi Chico Latino', this was when the massive weight loss happened, and she looked amazing in her bikini on the beach in the video. Her second album was 'Scream if you wanna go faster' and included the title track on the Cd. It also had a cover version of 'It's raining men' formerly produced by the Weather Girls. 'It's raining men' was used
in Bridget Jones diary - one of the best films of the year. She then went onto bring out a book called 'If Only' which was basically an autobiography about herself and how her family treated her. It explained how she managed to get through coping with the death of her dad and about all of the careers that she had had before joining the Spice Girls, such as a TV host in Turkey and a dancer in Majorca's biggest nightclub - BCM's. Not long after that she brought out another book about her Eating Disorders and how she got to the point of feeling very ill and realised that things had to change. This book was called 'Just for the record' and displays Geri on the front completely naked with only a measuring tape wrapped around her body. I have heard that this is due to change soon because many parents were worried that this image would cause their children to gain eating disorders. She presented the MTV awards so that she could get used to the American audiences. She then auctioned off her Spice Girl wardrobe at London's Sotheby's, and made an enormous amount of money for many terminally ill children. Geri Halliwell has two noticeable tattoo's - one of them is a black panther on the base of her spine and the other is a letter G with a halo around the top on the back of her neck. After having lots of trouble in love, particularly with the split between her and Robbie Williams, hopefully she will be able to settle down soon just like Victoria Beckham and Melanie Brown (well did, until the divorce anyways!). Geri always wanted to be famous even as a child, so I am glad that she has got her wish. She has come such a long way since the Spice Girl days, she's changed so much and all for the better in my opinion. I hope that we will still see her producing songs in many years to come. I have found out today that the Spice Girl's all met up as Victoria Beckhams house to
discuss a comeback, but Melanie Chisholm (sporty spice) says that the others will have to go ahead without her if this is to be the case. This is because she feels as though it would ruin her solo career, to start bringing the past back up. It is good to see that there are no more arguments between any of the band members though, particulalrly if they can discuss in a civil manner the idea of the Spice Girls being re-released, over dinner.

Jakeball - 12/03/03 An egomaniac singing songs that the record company have written for her. Amazing voice? Not really, average female vocalists are ten a penny. She's not even that pretty (I wouldn't!) Her voice grates. 'Look at me'. No, lets not, you attention seeking, money grabbing, publicity desperado media whore. Fuck Geri Halliwell. Fuck her in her stupid ass. :-) |
