Advantages: A LEGEND, STRONG,POWERFUL VOICE, DISCO HEAVEN

Disadvantages: Don't ask me, I love her!

Long Before Kylie, Madonna or even Donna Summer came along, this lady firmly claimed her place as 'Queen of Disco'.

Somewhat cagey about her age, the most accurate estimates put her in her mid 50's and she has been releasing records since the early 1970's, with at times varying degrees of success.

Early hits such as 'Never Can say Goodbye' and 'How high the moon' were very distinctive of her work at the time, pure 70's disco, with her pure sweet voice in perfect harmony with pumping beats.

It is "I Will Survive" that she is best known for- a true, defiant liberating disco-anthemn that is guaranteede to get almost every woman and gay man, plus many more besides up on the dance floor and singing along to every word, which, by now are probably known by more people that those of the 'God Save The Queen'!

Released in 1979, this song achieved the rare feat of topping the UK and USA charts simultaneously, although despite it's huge success, it took until 1983 for Gloria to follow it with another major hit ' I am what I am' (again, a huge gay favourite).

All the more remarkable about the success of 'I will Survive' is the fact that at the time of recording, Gloria was almost paralysed after falling off stage whils performing in a club. The song holds a special meaning for Gloria, as at the time she had just started to overcome many years of drink and drug abuse.

Since the release of 'I am what I am' Gloria has had little chart success (apart from a '93 re-release of 'survive'), but still records and performs all over the world.
A born again Christian, she has also hosted gospel shows on BBC Radio 2.

Some people hate 'I will survive', I love it! It is quite fascinating that despite being over 20 years old, this song is instantly recognisable by most people and is indeed one of the most popular Karaoke song
s of all time!!

Indeed, it seems that even if 'I will survive' had been the only song she had ever recorded, Gloria is assured a special place in pop history!
