Green day are an American band. They formed in 1987. This rock/punk band consists of Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals, guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass guitar, Vocals) and Tre Cool (Drums) There musical influences were the likes of The Ramones, Buzzcocks, The clash, The Sex pistols etc. Green day became very popular after the release of their 3rd album in 1994. Dookie was a massive hit and everyone went wild for a bit of Green day. Songs like Basket Case and Long view got kids exited and dancing (I know I was). Green day won many awards for this number one album and their tour was a sell out. Green day went on to write more albums and became one of the biggest American ... Read the complete review

Green Day are probably the best-known band to come out of the American west coast punk scene. One of the finest live bands in the world, they don't sound too bad on record either, and have grown increasingly popular with the British music-buying public. The band began life as Sweet Children, when three high school friends, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Pritchard and John Kiftmeyer decided to form a group. After Mike came to the conclusion that Dirnt was a much better surname, they recorded several EPs before their first album, 39/Smooth, was released in 1990. The lyrics were simplistic, the tunes were poppy, but the Green Day sound we've came to know and ... Read the complete review

Green Day are one of my favourite bands, but it seems this punk trio has had its best years. Their most recent album "Warning" (2000) is probably their worst, and seems more folk than it does punk, although there are rumours that their next album will be their heaviest. But is this a good thing or a bad thing? After all, Green Day aren't known for their heaviness- just their pure and simple amazing punk! The band have been together for over fifteen years, and was formed by high school dropouts Billie Joe Armstrong (guitar, lyrics and vocals), Mike Dirnt (bass) and Tre Cool (drums). Their first album, "39/ Smooth", was released in 1990, ... Read the complete review

Green Day was part of the California punk scene. Childhood friends Billie Joe Armstrong (guitar, vocals) and Mike Dirnt (bass; born Mike Pritchard) formed their first band, Sweet Children, in Rodeo, California when they were 14 years old. By 1989, the group had added drummer Al Sobrante and changed their name to Green Day. That year, the band independently released their first EP, 1,000 Hours, which was well received in the punk scene. At this point in time not many people had heard of them but there success started here. Soon, the group signed a contract with the local independent label, Lookout! Records. 39/Smooth, Green Day's first album, was released ... Read the complete review

Hence be the history of the best damn band in the world: Green Day began with childhood friends Billie Joe Armstrong (guitar, vocals) and Mike Dirnt (bass; born Mike Pritchard) forming their first band, Sweet Children, in Rodeo, California when they were 14 years old. Billie had been given a blue Fender by his guitar and it impressed Dirnt so much he went out and bought a bass. In 1989, the group had added drummer Al Sobrante to complete the line up and changed their name to Green Day after local band Sweet Baby Jesus were signed to a major label. Thinking the two names sounded too similar the band changed the name to Green Day, a Californian term for ... Read the complete review
