Green day are an American band. They formed in 1987. This rock/punk band consists of Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals, guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass guitar, Vocals) and Tre Cool (Drums) There musical influences were the likes of The Ramones, Buzzcocks, The clash, The Sex pistols etc.

Green day became very popular after the release of their 3rd album in 1994. Dookie was a massive hit and everyone went wild for a bit of Green day. Songs like Basket Case and Long view got kids exited and dancing (I know I was). Green day won many awards for this number one album and their tour was a sell out. Green day went on to write more albums and became one of the biggest American bands around. Their released albums were as follows:-
* 39/smooth in 1990
* Keplunk in 1992
* Dookie in 1994
* Insomniac in 1995
* Nimrod in 1997
* Warning in 2000 and
* American Idiot in 2004
Green day have also release a best of since then.

I was first introduced to Green Day in 1994. I was very young and my day who was a massive Ramones fan gave me Dookie as a present and told me to listen to it. I had grew up listening to punk music and from the moment my ears heard Green day I was impressed. I fell in love with every single song on that album and never stopped playing> I went out and bought the other two that had previously been released. I thought Green day were fantastic. The way they get into their songs is just magical. Billie Joe is a great singer/songwriter and the way he jumps about the stage is impressive. Unfortunately I have seen may live bands but Green day was never one of them> I never got the opportunity to see them and I still think about it now. I think I would have rather seen Green day how they were rather than now, Not that they are not good now but I loved the punky Green day rather than the sort of mellow one they are now. I suppose they grew fed up of writing fast punk songs all the time and decided to concentrate on a few slower ones like "wake me up when summer ends" and "time of your life". I can honestly say that "time of your life must be one of my favourite songs and I still think it should have been the main theme song for "titanic"(rather than Celin Dion) as it was released around the same time as the film was released. But then again I suppose Green day wouldn't suit such a weepy film. Not compared to "Angus" anyway when J.A.R appeared on the soundtrack.

Billie Joe is also the front man of a band called "pinhead Gunpowder" These are very much like the early Green Day and well worth checking out. Songs like "Life during war time" are great.

On a whole I think Green Day are great. I have always been a fan. Green day are defiantly one of the best bands around and anyone that hasn't listened to their stuff is mad.

Summary: This band is one of the best bands ever
