Green Day...the masters of ironic. (well at least I think so!). Billie Joe in particular has the irony thing down to a T. (is that how the saying goes/is spelt?) And after ten years, they haven't left that style. Always, they tell it with that sense of irony and have never steered off of that winning formula. But has the music stayed the same, after all this time? Well i personally think that it has changed....well at least a bit.

The three have gone from hardcore/punk to accoustic/punk. This may sound weird, but if you don't believe me listen to 'Paper Lanterns', then listen to any of the tracks from 'Warning'. you may not hear it at first, but it is there. they have gone soft. not that this is a bad thing. they osund just as good now as they did back in the days of 'Dookie', but they have become more mellow. They have experimented with the softer side of punk, and it has worked. They are still loved as much now as they were when 'Dookie' came out. hell, they are loved even MORE!!! songs like 'Macys Day Parade' are better then some like 'Hitchin a Ride' or 'Longview'. I love both of the latter songs, but they just don't comapre to the former.

Another example of Green Day's new musical direction can be heard on 'Poprocks and Coke'. I know that there is a very big chance you won't have heard of this, and that is because it is from the bands forthcoming 'International Superhits' album (released in November). the album is basically loads of the Green Day classics (i don't know whether they will be live, but there is a SLIGHT possibility...) and two new tracks ('Poprocks and Coke' and 'Maria'). Listening to one of the lold songs on that album, then comparing it to 'Poprocks....', you will see that they are completely different musically, and yet so much the same lyrically. And this is exactly what i mean.

anyway, enough of
that. I am now going to go into a bit more detail of Green Day's new album....
Of course, i am going to give you the track listing for the new album (being the great person that i am!!!) :

As any hardcore Green Day fans wil know, all of the above (apart from 'Walking Contradiction', 'Macy's Day Parade' and the new tracks) have been released as singles, and have promo videos. and so, along with the new album, there will be a video/DVD featuring all of the videos (It is called 'International Superhits'), and there is a rumour flying around, that there will be videos shot for the 4 that there isn't already videos for. this is an added bonus for those who love Green Day and/or haven't seen all of the videos.

And you know what? No matter what they sound like, i am going to buy both the cd and the vhs/DVD, because Green Day RULE!!!
