Advantages: Great atmosphere, Billy Joe worked the audience well! Great fun!
Disadvantages: Can't see any personally! Except i didnt get chosen to play billys guitar (but i cant really complain about that!)
I am a HUGE Greenday fan and I went to see them live on November 9th last year at the ice arena in Nottingham. Before i actually talk about the gig i'd like to say what happened before... When i was walking around Nottingham a friend of mine told me that Tre Cool was in Superbowl- i had my doubts, but i was near superbowl so i went to check it out! I went in and as i looked up guess who i saw!! Yep, it was Tre himself! I felt guilty annoying him before the gig when he was trying to relax and do some bowling, but i wud have regreted not talking to him forever if i hadn't! I borrowed a pen from the information desk, plucked up my courage and went over to him. I asked him to sign my Greenday top, which he did (I still have my top and i havent washed it for 4 months!!) I then just said a few words, and shoock his hand!! I still can't believe i got to talk to him!! After my little starstruck moment i shook myself off and headed towards the ice arena. I had to que for about half an hour to get in, but that's not exactly uncommon! When i went in and sat down bouncing souls were playing- they put up a good performance and got the crowd going (the crowd were extremely excited anyway- knowing they were going to see greenday). I could see the standing area was heating up- with a few surfers and bouncing souls hard punk got them jumping. When Greenday came on- (to a song a cant remember (i have a bad memory)) i went into standing it want really violent, but the atmosphere of excited adolesants and the amazing experience of Greenday live compensated for that. The gig was good with tracks from all greendays albums- the best crowd reaction was to 'Hitchin' a ride', 'Brain Stew', 'Basket Case', 'Geek stink breathe' and others that iv already forgotten! Billy, came out with funny masks and props, like a water pistol! He entertained the crowd fantastically with his shouts of A'RITE and the cheers of 1,2,1,2,3,4!! One lucky
member of the ordiance (who i envy soooo badly!) got to go up play billy's guitar and then stage dive! Of coarse the Funnily dressed trombone and trumpet players came out for what i can remember King for a day and something else (bad memory again!). The whole gig was a great time, with one of the worlds best showmen (Billy Joe) with the audience at his feet! There was an electric happy atmosphere, right up to 'Good Ridance' (some people call it Time of your life) when the crowd shouted out the words and waved there arms in a tribute to a great night- it truely was a time of our life! They then (i think) broke into Platypus, which drove the crowd crazy! Warning was also very welcome and gave the crowd a very happy atmospher as they bounced up and down to the cheerful tune! (I think) The gig finished with macy's day parade which truely is a great tune- it left the crowd silent. The gig really was fenomenal- If you ever have the chance to see Green Day GO!
