Public Domain in general
by dreamwarrioruk Why does everyone dis' Public Domain? They make great tunez that are alwayz buzzin' in you head, even on a wednesday. Public Domain is a team of six people, and Mark Sherry is the lead DJ of the group. Their songs are mint, their songs are mainly Hard Dance tunez, which have a tough beats and Killer Basslines. ... The below statement tells us exactly how the music is made and why it is so unique on its own level. "Hardhouse was kickin', trance was elevationg and techno took you to that special place beyond the dance floor, but all together... well, thats something else completly." Taken fom Hard House Anthems booklet (CD 1) Heres a bit of advice to all dance music lovers: LISTEN TO PUBLIC DOMAIN, THE ARE JUST BRILLIANT. And if you don't like Dance music, well your missing out on the fun. Read the complete review |

Public Domain in general
by kasgaroth Well with the release of the chart hit Operation Blade I thought that i would take a look around and see if I could get my hands on any of their other work well to say the least I was suprised to hear that they had an album so I ordered a copy to see what it was like. suprisingly it was only released in July 2001 but ... how is that i thought considering just how long Operation blade had actually been around. Well after forking out my £11.99 I took it away to listen to and then discovered what i think at least is the reason why. The album itself looks like what you would expect from a group that you would believe were hardhouse until you play the thing from then your opinions will change dramatically from what you first expected. This is a attempt to mix rapping with hardhouse and at time like a rip-off of the prodigy or something, but to say the least it has failed in my view. Most of the songs are unimpressive and boring which was a big surprise from the creators of "Operation blade" so much so in fact that it seems almost like it was written by two different groups. From listening to this album it came to my belief anyway that Public Domain has probably only kicked out this album to try and cash in on the popularity of their hit and I feel sorry for anyone else who is a sucker enough to buy this without checking it out first as it will only make you wish you never bought it in the first place. At least my pocket felt better when I had the money still in it. What a dissapointment this was. 1 - Rock da Funky Beats Well this tune sounds like it is recorded live at a rave with the sound of the crowd screaming in the background, The DJ comes through strong with his vocals but thry are basically limited to the title of the track but saying that though the tune is quite good which helps make up things somewhat. 2 - Pump Up Nation This was done in a style totally di fferent from what I expected to hear as it sounds a lot more rap orientated like the sort of thing you would expect to hear from Run DMC or The Beastie Boys. I suppose that truly this track is one that you will not enjoy unless you like this style of music. 3 - Too Many Mc's Once again this is another heavy rap orientated song that is a mix of styles as the lyric's are definatley done rap style but the music is a mix of something like the Prodigy with a bit of Rock giutaring thrown in to boot. 4 - Operation blade bass in the place London..... by far the best song on the album and the reason i bought this album, It was a chart hit though it was played quite a few years before this on the rave scene and I don't know if you will recall but if you watch the film Blade with wesley snipes this was the tune played where he enters the club and it's raining blood from the sprinklers onto the vampires, this tune has been used on other films and tv programs when they try to represent the club scene which wouyld have helped popularise the tune as well. 5 - Let me clear my throat Well this is a bit more like a heavy hardcore sort of tune to it but as the title of the song is the main lyric I think they could have come up with something better to go with the tune. This lets the tune down as it would have been better with some decent lyrics added to it. 6 - Inside out This is again more like a heavy rave style of song that you would expect to be played in a heavy hardcore club and you will definatley have to like this style of music to get any enjoyment out of this one. 7 - just a latin groove This is done more like a dance type of tune that you could hear in any club with a lighter more bouncy beat to it however as there are no lyrics with this song to speak of then i seriously doubt that this will ever come to anything. 8 - No time to run Back to the breakbeat rap style of music and thi s song is another that will not amount to anything well not in this country at least. looks like it could be time to start running from this album. 9 - dj's on the move Switches back to the hardhouse style here but the tune at best is only ok with nothing that grabs at you whatsoever, probably about the second best track on the album as well so it say's a lot for the overall impression that this album gives. Sounds more at times like a bit of a rip-off of a tune you can hear on War of the Worlds. 10 - Stargate Here we have another change of style to only what could be described as more like trance with the tune fading in and out, sounds a bit like Jean-Michael Jarre but not anywhere near as good though. final summary; stay firmly away from this one Read the complete review |
