God, if I see that video, or hear that record again, I will go berserk. What record you may be asking? The answer is Pure and Simple, by the new group called Hearsay. Now come on, I know they might be half decent singers and they will no doubt be number one, for about 20 weeks, but is this through their singing skills, or the blatant over-publicising, this group has received? I think it’s the latter. For those of you who don’t know what I’m on about,” WHAT PLANET HAVE YOU BEEN ON” for the last few months, I mean this group has had more public exposure, than “The Beatles” in their prime, and I personally am totally sick of hearing about them and their annoying record. Who are Hearsay? Well as I have already stated, you must by now, know who this group are, they are the final five Singers, Dancers, Lion-Tamers (only joking), etc, that won through the gruelling competition, which included hundreds of potential Pop-Stars, the competition was shown on ITV (virtually everyday), on a programme imaginatively called “Pop-stars”. What is there Single? Their new single, which was released on Monday, is called “Pure and Simple” and supposedly sold around 200,000 copies on the first day, WHY? It is not exactly the best single you have heard, is it? And if you actually bought this record, why exactly did you buy it? Was it because you really truly like the record OR was it just because you have been watching the programme? Once again, I think it will be the latter, But Hey, that’s just my opinion. Why is the single going to be number one for about the next 50 weeks? As the record says itself, its “Pure and Simple”, its because ITV, have been promoting this group, on a daily basis, and millions of people have been sucked in to the project, I think its sad to think, that this record has gained so much publicity and at th
e same time, there are much more talented singers or groups, to whom have released records that same week, which are ten times better, but have no chance at all, at getting to number one. We are forever hearing how Eminem, Oasis, etc, only do crazy things to get publicity, BUT and a big BUT at that, at least its themselves earning the publicity, and not some media hyped band-wagon. Why am I so against the group? Well, put it this way, I personally hope the five losing finalists, make a group, and become more famous, not that I have anything against the members of Hearsay, I am sure the five are all very nice people in real-life, its just that I totally disagree with the unfair over-publicity, they have received, when at the same time, there are groups out there, that have ten times the talent, work their backsides off, but don’t stand any chance with groups like this, as believe me, this will not be the last of these manufactured pop-groups, as there will probably be another competition next year, and we’ll have to put up with it all over again. OK we have had lots of manufactured pop-groups over the years, but the difference is, these other so-called groups, gained there publicity AFTER they have released records, not for months on end, BEFORE the release of their records, thus gaining a totally unfair advantage over the competition, which is a totally different thing, in my eyes anyway. I know for a fact, that I will receive lots of low ratings and bad comments for writing this opinions, as so many people have been brain-washed with the hype surrounding Hearsay and love the group for one reason, just because they where on the show, now come on, the five least talented singers in the world, could have won that competition, and still got to number one.

Judgee - 08/11/01 Hearsay are pants but now the losing 5 finalists from the show have teamed up to bring out a record and they are even worse! I look back to the eighties if I want to hear decent music. I love rock and that was really the last decade that true and talented rock bands existed! |
