Well, here it is, I promised you an opinion on Hear’say. Firstly, let me assure you that this album was bought with the sole intention for my six year old (nearly 7 bless him) son, and in no way, was it for me, at all ever ok? You go that?

The album, I have to say is quite good actually (in a Steps, Spice Girls, All Saints type way) A surprising amount of songs for their first album, 15, and are all very catchy little ditty’s, with more than a few number 1s on it me thinks.

All the songs are very harmony based, and the strongest, and most talented by far are Noel and Kym vocally wise.

Kym: Her voice is the most predominant one to be heard by far, and the album certainly allows her to show off her vocal talents much more than the show ever did. She has an earthy vocal quality, but it’s a shame that the others, mainly the other girls, seem mainly to hum in the background.

Suzanne: Oh dear, was she chosen for her looks alone? Her voice is poor to say the least. It’s not that she can’t sing, just that she can’t do it very well. Her voice is very dainty with no edge or passion to it at all. When she duets, she can barely be heard, and when she sings alone (which is rare) she is almost drowned out by the music. A very poor range of vocal ability, so all in all, this one out of them all, ends up looking like a Karaoke singer made good.

Myleene: A voice resembling Lulu, although again, no where near quite as good. She has a gritty, Rod Stewart type voice, and sometimes appears to be struggling to reach notes on the album, which ends up giving the impression that they were all given the chance to “stand out” on a song, by taking the lead, sadly it doesn’t work. She would perhaps have been better as a solo singer, and not in a group.

Noel: A typical boy group voice. A fairly good range of vocal ability, and a quite sexy sound (ARGHH, did I say that out loud? IT IS for
my son you know, honest) His voice has a remarkable familiarity to Adam Garcia from the Theatre version of Saturday Night Fever, (now there’s a man, good looking, a sexy voice, and a damn good mover too) and certainly can hold his own in the vocal stakes. His voice stands out well against the others and adds depth to the songs. (if you can get depth on these type of songs)

Danny: Again, a talented voice, but doesn’t seem to fit in to the ethos of the band. A much deeper vocal talent (bored of using the word ability), that also stands out from the others when he sings alone, or in a duet.

The Songs and brief description:

1: Pure and Simple

Yeah right, like you haven’t heard it? Ok, I’ll tell you then. Jolly upbeat ditty, about being there for someone, allegedly with the bridge sounding remarkably like Oasis’ Around the world. Something for everyone, appeals to all ages. (well, I heard my mum say she liked it!!)

2: The way to your love

Begins with a few orchestral type thingies. Sounds remarkably like an A1 song that has escaped my memory at the moment (well, obviously I don’t listen to them either, you just pick these things up on the radio don’t you?) Main voices heard, Kym, Noel, and Danny (again)

3: One step Closer

Bit more of a funky jivey type song. I have to say, (cringe) I quite like this one (you know, I mean, I don’t LIKE it, just that it is rather pleasant…..) Rather repetitive, but funky (did I say funky?) none the less and the beginning reminds me of Hill street blues theme song lol. Again, main singers are Kym, Noel and Danny. With interspertions of Myleene doing her Lulu/Rod impression.

4: Another Lover

Rather boring, tedious, and dull. No main vocal leads as such; they all jump on in with the old harmonies. Sounds like a poor attempt at pop/R&B stylee.

5: One

A song about a woman/man with loo
se morals I think? Well, they keep singing about not looking for the ONE, just want someone to “hang out with to dance at a party”
Hip hopesque attempt at music, nothing too spectacular.

6: Not the kind

Oh my god, has Janet Jackson heard this yet? If and when you hear it (once you’ve rushed out to buy it because of my op lol) the opening vocals are more like Janet Jackson’s Best things in life are free, than the original ever was. It is almost a direct imitation, and I can’t believe no-ones noticed. Anyway, in stark contrast to the last song about NOT wanting to find true love, this song IS about finding the right one. Maybe this is why people think they are so manufactured, (other than the other multiple reasons of course) there is NO theme to the album, it’s literally just a collection of tunes to appeal to teenagers.

7: Make it happen

Myleene takes the lead in this one, again, with her gritty Rodesque voice, it just doesn’t seem to fit. Another upbeat song, with a slight club/dance beat to it, and those electronic voice bits on it in the background.

8: Breathe

Noel leads the show on this, and until Kym chirps in, sounds just like a Westlife song, (obviously I don’t listen to them either do I?) A lovely dovey song, about following people around the world and daft things like that.

9: Carried away

Guess who sings this one? Yup you guessed it, Kym. A slow tempo, ballad, with no great surprises, rather dull, and monotonous.

10: Sweet alibi

You know Madonna’s song, “Don’t tell me”? you know that bit where it all breaks up, and you think your Cd players gone up the duff? Well, that’s this song. Keeps stopping and starting, but doesn’t seem right. A little bit of the “countryish” stylee that Maddy has adopted too.

11: I didn’t want you anyway

Another slow son
g, reminiscent sound of the singer of Ally Mcbeal fame. Suzanne get’s a little look in on this song, as does Myleene. Rather dull…………

12: Colour blind

Danny gets the main parts on this one, and it’s ok, but its nothing special, rather humdrum and all about love being colour blind. Too much “chorus” and repetition.

13: Love will never end

Think Boyzone. Westlife, A1, All saints, Spice girls, mix ‘em all up and you’ve got this song, but without the talent (CHA lol) or passion.

14: Monday Monday

Yeah, so are going to tell me you haven’t heard this one too? Much BA DA BA DA DA DA, in the background, with Noel and Danny singing the main bits. Noel and Danny are very good on this track, but the song is almost a near perfect copy of the original so no attempt at an original stance to this song.

15: Bridge over troubled water

OH MY GOD, who killed this song? This is actually a terrible version of the song, despite the effort spent rehearsing this song repeatedly on POPSTARS. There just doesn’t seem to be the effort or passion involved as with old Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon. However, a pleasant melody none the less.

Overall a better choice for the kiddies than S club blooming 7 or such like.

Enjoy :-) Now I have reviewed the album I shall give it back to my son, the RIGHTFUL owner lol.

Good op, though haven't you risked permanent damage by listening to the whole thing?
