Advantages: none really
Disadvantages: All sound the same to me!!
I have to say that I didn't really enjoy the Popstars programmes. They bored me. Hour after hour of the same thing. The show, which I originally thought to be a showcase of auditions etc, soon turned out to be a soap opera, with tabloid interest, research and revealing stories, as well as fan favourite characters, and the infamous "Nasty" Nigel. All this just pushed the programme further down the "manufactured music" road, which receieves much criticism amongst the music industry, but drives young kids into frenzies of buying singles, albums, and other merchandise, making the untalented few millionaires overnight. I say untalented, which, in my view, most pop groups are. It doesn't take much to scream into a microphone and then have the output digital remixed, revamped, and made to sound like the voice of an angel. OK, there are some talented singers in pop groups, as we were promised with Hear'Say. They were to be the first group to sing live all the time, without miming. At their first gig, the group, Noel, Danny, Suzanne, Kim and Myleene, who were all household names after the long series, mimed their way through a selection of their recordings. Outrage sparked, but they redeemed themselves in the weeks to come, being boosted straight to number 1 with their first single after a month or so of free publicity. There is no denying that this particular group are very talented, and they have been carefully selected, but less can be said about most of their chart rivals, who may not be able to sing as well as Hear'Say, but with the aid of technology, their singles will be just as good. Thanks

britneysmousemat - 08/11/01 Well, they are, they can sing. In this particular "field" of talent, they rank highly, although they wouldn't in just about any other "field".
